Wings

Before

I woke up to the sight of my mother jumping up and down on the side of my bed.

"Wake up Rose!! Its time to get ready for tonights celebration of the heavens ceremony." she squealed.       Crap. I totally forgot about that.

" Come on Rose! We have to get you looking respectful and proper. Today is a very important day in your life."

      Ok so Apparently, today is the day that the community have a coming to age ceremony,celebration of heaven, to celebrate the day we get our wings.  Its suppose to be a joyful event but somehow deep inside, i always feared this day. They say the ceremony will bring out your true self,and thats what im afraid of.

     "Mom?" I said quietly.

    "Yes Rose?"

     "Has there ever been anybody who didn't get there wings on the celebration of the heavens?"

She looked at me with confusion while saying "  No sweetheart. Everyones gotten their wings." 

     "Was there ever anybody who's wings weren't like everyone else's?" I ask attentively, looking into her eyes to show how serious I was. The look of uneasiness settled in for a slit second before they were replaced by something calm.

      "Nope everyone's were the same. Nothing different. Don't be scared sweetheart. You have nothing to worry. Now go get in the shower." She said as she tried to change the topic.

    I groaned. I got up and walked over to the bathroom.  I stopped to look in mirror.

   I groaned even more when i saw that my hair was colossal mess of black tangles down to my waist. It was going to take a life time to fix it. I left the mirror and striped off my black shorts and my white tank top and headed towards the shower. I turned the knob as far as it could go. I wanted a hot steamy shower and thats what I was going to get.

I got out the shower which felt like I been in there for hours, went in the closet and got out matching underwear and bra, a dark blue and white striped tank top, white shorts and my blue high tops. After getting dressed, I put my in a messy bun.

  This should be ok considering that today I was just going to do my hair and makeup later. I walked down stairs to find a plate of scramble eggs and a bacon sitting on my side of the table. The smell made my stomach rumble.

  I quickly walked, more like jogged, over to the plate of food. As soon as the fork was in my hand i went to work. I was shoving food in my mouth when i felt a light tap on my leg. I turned around to find Faith looking up at me.  She looked so adorable, well as adorable as a five year old can get.

    Today she was sporting her new floral dress which went with her light blue eyes. Her blond hair was in her natural curls that went down to her waist.

  "Can we go outside and play."she said quietly. I thought about it. I looked at the clock hanging up in the kitchen and saw that I had a couple of hours before I actually to get dressed.

  "Sure kiddo." i said as i put my dishes in the sink. I've always liked playing with Faith. She mad me feel like a normal big sister.

    We walked outside to find boys on the side walk playing tag. They stopped immediately  when they saw me.

    "FREAK!" one said

     "MONSTER!" Another boy shouted. I decided to ignore them and play with Faith when I felt something on my back. I turned around to see that now the little boys were throwing rock at me.  I yelled for them to stop and leave.        When they didn't, I started marching over there with a scowl. I'm pretty sure they got the message because they turned around and started running.

   "Tonight everyones going to see how big of a monster you really are." One of the boys yelled to me. And I have no doubt that he's probably right.
