My problems started in fifth grade. After my aunt adopted Zana. She seemed so happy. Happier than I had ever seen her before. That's when I realized the sincerity of my attraction towards her.
I really, really liked her. I thought she was gorgeous. She had a lovely voice and an even more beautiful personality.
So living with her became slightly difficult. I didn't want her to hate me when she found out my feelings. So I kept them hidden. She wouldn't understand.
So when sixth grade came and she was still obsessed with fitting in, I wanted to confront her. Tell her how she doesn't need to change. But I coward out and ended up watching her start to starve herself.
My aunts didn't notice when she purposely made them believe her appetite had shrunk. No it didn't. She just didn't want to eat a lot. Cause she thinks she's fat. She just didn't understand.
But, my feelings only continued to grow as she continued to change. She only changed her appearance. She was still the same Zana I met in fourth grade on the inside. But as she changed and became more popular, she started to forget about me. It hurt that I was only a small part of her life when I've been the only true friend to her since elementary. She just couldn't understand.
When the conflict with her parents arouse, she was once again back to clinging to me. Secretly, I was very happy. But I didn't let it show. She was too upset about the situation going on. Not that she even understood what was happening. All she knew was that something was making my aunt sad. Which then made her sad.
After that incident, she went back to her "happy" state. And soon I was long forgotten.
A few days after the first day of ninth grade, she was invited to a party. It was taking place at Mike's house. Zana had made her discomfort of that fact known. She said Mike gave her an off feeling.
After school that day, Mike confronted me. Said he needed to talk. That it was serious.
Mike said Zana just didn't understand what was happening around her. He said that Logan and David planned to do something bad at the party tonight. He told me to stop her from attending.
He didn't want anything to happen to Zana. She didn't deserve what was coming to her.
The problem though, he didn't understand the mindset of Zana. Didn't understand that she would do anything if it meant people would like her. Including sneaking out to parties even though she got slight chills at the thought.
That night, though, I did try and convince her not to go. As she was about to go out the window, I told her the bad feeling I had.
Since she didn't trust Mike, I didn't tell her about his warning. Just tried to tell her not to go. But she didn't listen. Because she just didn't understand.
I stayed up all night. I waited for her to return. I waited, and waited. But she didn't return. When morning came I was really worried. My aunts didn't notice.
Zana was never awake before they left. They didn't think anything was off. Nothing was unusual. They didn't understand.
I went to school, thinking that maybe she would be there. Maybe she just stayed the night. Did that happen at parties? I didn't know.
She was nowhere to be seen on compus. No one had seen her since last night.
I went to Mike. He looked petrified when he saw me. He tried to get away. He told me that I didn't understand. He told me to stay away from him.
