It had been 16 years since Stanford has been pushed into the Portal. At first he had been infuriated (😎). Who knows what he would encounter. But soon after he began to grow fascinated. Some odd creatures were willing to let him for a night or two. Others were willing to kill him on the spot. He had to be open-minded about them yet careful. His trust issues only grew worse these past years.
Yet, staying in one dimension for a large amount of time would bore him. He would study the main physics of the dimension, study some plants and animals, and of course the people. He would only study these things if they existed there. After a couple months in his first dimension, he found out a small blue portal would open every once in a while in the dimension's weakest point, but close quickly after. He would calculate when and where a portal would open up to travel from dimension to dimension.
16 years of that. 16 years of being a dimensional refugee, having nowhere to call "Home".
He was currently in a dimension where it always snowed. Maybe the winter season was just very long here. He couldn't tell. Ford had lost track of day and night due to it always cloudy. Sometimes the sky would brighten a little, but Ford would never pay attention to it. It was too cold for his liking and the only things to study were the rocks and caves. He would just have to wait for the next portal to open.
After countless hours of waiting he began moving to where the portal would open. It wouldn't be too far. The cave was just about a mile away from the opening. He checked his pockets to make sure everything was there. He emerged from the cave to begin his walk.
A minute or two into his walk he began to hear a noise. At first he shrugged it off. It only grew louder. It sounded like steps, a foot stepping into the snow and taking it out only for it to repeat. He was dang sure those footprints weren't his own. He turned around and was greeted by a young woman with panic in her eyes and a blanket in her arms only a couple feet away. "Maybe she's heading for the portal too", Ford thought. After she grew closer he saw that she was looking right at him.
"Sir!", she yelled. Now that she was closer Ford could see her more clearly. Her hair was an odd shade of blue and she wore a suit of armor, but what had stuck out most to him was the pink diamonds on her cheeks. He had never seen anything like them. He wondered if she had painted them on. "But why would a grown woman paint Diamonds on her cheeks?", he wondered.
The woman was now an arms length in front of him. "Please sir, tell me you are heading to the next opening!", she pleaded with fear in every word. "Yes, it's less than a mile away from here and set to open in a couple minutes", he replied. "Oh thank Mewni!", she took in a deep breath. "My name is Moon, this is my little baby, Star", she told him.
Ford looked into the blanket to see a little Blond baby. She the same skin tone as her mother. She was asleep, peacefully. Ford wondered how she could sleep so calmly in a frigid place like this. Her cheeks had the same markings as her mom's, except they were hearts instead of diamonds. "Birth marks?", he asked himself. He looked up at Moon with a confused look. "Well, uh, that's a lovely baby you have there, but I must be heading off, so if you'll excuse me...", he turned back around and continued walking, confused at what had just happened.
"PLEASE, WAIT!", Moon yelled, running to Catch up with him. For an old man he was a fast walker. Ford turned back around. "Sir, my kingdom is not safe for Star. Please, I beg of you, take her to the portal! Send her to the next dimension and keep her safe at all cost!", Moon pleaded. Ford's jaw dropped. He could not take care of a baby while researching. What if a dangerous monster approached? How would he fight it off with a baby in his arms?! "Moon, I cannot take in your Child. My 'job' is far too dangerous for a baby.", he told her. Her face immediately turned to a face of sadness. He felt a bit sorry for her. "You don't understand!" She yelled at him. "A group of monsters will arrive any second for me! She needs to be safe!". Soon a portal open about 150 yards behind Moon. "Oh no", she muttered. A tear ran down her cheek as she set Star in front of Ford. She ran to the right, far from Star and Ford. She took out a pair scissors and opened a portal, then ran into it and disappeared, a group of monsters following her.
Ford looked at the baby by his feet. He picked her up and took a good, long look at her. He began sprinting to where the portal would open and jumped in the second he could. He took quick and short breaths. After he calmed down he had the courage to look back at the Baby in his arms. She had a face of disgust. He looked to the nearest village and started walking towards it. Meanwhile his mind was running.
"Star Pines?", he thought. It had a nice ring to it. Short, yet fun. He would take in this baby as his own. He worried though. Was he really fit to be parent? Would this child accept him as a father? He just hoped. Star seemed like the kind of baby you couldn't give up. But what was happening with her mother? He tried to shake off the questions for later. "Star Pines", he said aloud this time. He liked it, but even though that would be her name, he had to except the fact that Star Pines just didn't sound right somewhere. "Pines" was not her first last Name. But at least 'Star' seemed to fit perfectly.
