Chapter 1.

"Hannah Winters?!" The thought seemed preposterous.

"Yeah!" Dan replies, seemingly taken aback himself. A beam of delight walks across his lips, parting them like Moses and the Red Sea. "Apparently they ran into each other at that new movie!" His eyebrows come together in a tight knot, clicking his fingers he tries conjuring up the title. "That's it! The Notebook," The Notebook? I didn't even think he would be into something like that. Matt always went to watch the new Horror films, not chick flicks and romance movies. It would be most out of character.

"Are you sure it was The Notebook?" I say uneasily, rocking back and forth on my feet. "I mean, Matt doesn't seem to be into Romance movies," I murmur in disgust. Dan screws up his face.

"Yeah, sure of it. Matt wouldn't stop texting about it last night," He nods his head frantically. I couldn't believe my ears. Dan didn't seem too fussed over something as little as the filmI -on the other hand- did. "He said that they 'coincidentally' had seats next to each other and it was smooth-sailing from there. Apparently they couldn't stop talking and they didn't even stay to watch the end of the movie, got kicked out!" Dan cracks a loud laugh; I try spreading a smile but it comes out more of sarcastic gesture. My body feels stiff and my fingers start shaking out of control, the breath billowing from my separated lips begins to grow faster.

"Kicked out?" I try another advance on a smirk, but quickly hide my face behind countless strands of hair to keep myself from being embarrassed in front of one of my best mates.

"Uh huh!" Dan beams. "Said he walked her home, kissed her goodnight and everything!" I felt my head getting dizzy and my stomach lurch; my face getting hot and flustered, flushing a deep, crimson red. Matt has been my secret crush for as long as I can remember, I couldn't tell him though. If I did, he'd probably just stare at me blankly, then start laughing his head off. I was 'one of the guys' from his point of view, and I've always felt comfortable in that position. But now, hearing about his newly-formed relationship, I don't feel like being a tomboy is working out.

"And, he just asked her to be his girlfriend?" I stuttered. That would seem odd. Hannah Winters is the most popular girl in school. I can't even blame her; she has perfect blonde hair, naturally straight but some how bounced with volume every time she takes a step, with startling sapphire-blue eyes, well, she is drop-dead gorgeous. It is simply unfair.

"Pretty much," -Not that Dan cared about the details anyway- I roll my eyes, "He said he just cracked the question on her. Said that her first response was a shrug, but she said yes in the end," Of course she did. "Matt's one lucky dude," He crumples his eyebrows together. "Hey, are you alright Alex? You look like you've got a fever or something,"

"Nah I'm alright," I shake my head, hoping the inflamed colour on my cheeks would fall away with it.

Suddenly the bell rings loud and clear, spilling down the corridor. Rolling my eyes I snatch endless books from my locker and flee to History class before I can hear one last word from Dan.

History dragged on, long and slow, like a marathon with no other end for me to meet. Clicking my pen a million times over I lean on the palm of my hand; bored out of my mind. We were studying Elites and Power Twentieth-Century Spain. I was arranged to be seated at the back. It wasn't too bad, the teacher always puts the most irresponsible people in the front row, then scatters the rest of us wherever - like he cares. I was placed next to Maddison Ashton, an optomistic, useless air-stealer from my point of view; and Ace Collet, one of Matt's tackle guards in his Football team. We'd never really talked before, Matt and him weren't too close, but I'd seen him around.
