She... She was my childhood friend! Well emphasis on the 'was' as she would've forgotten me now after we got separated... Weird, I could only vaguely remember how we got separated in the first place but not the why. I remember our parents suddenly cut off any connections between us. Bah! Nevermind that, Freia's still talking and I got to listen.
"Uhmm... As you can see, I'm blind... But! I'm still capable to do what you guys can!"
"Except for seeing, haha~"
Then the whole class started giggling and jittering on their seats, stifling their laughs as much as they could. While the other ones who didn't react much was Mr. Börd who had a stern gaze, Jennifer who was still distant from the class atmosphere, and me.
And there was also Freia's reaction... Which caused quite a stir, saying "Hahaha... Sorry, that's one thing I can't do..." and just smiled like it didn't affected her at all. This time everyone couldn't hold it in, they all burst out laughing like assholes.
"ENOUGH!" wailed Mr. Börd. His stern gaze turned into a twisted face of anger. "That was rude to blatantly insult someone's condition! Right! In! Their! Face!" then he eyed the classroom, eventually locking on Justin Harrera... Of course, the sharpest tongue. He just smiled back at his gaze. No matter how angry Mr. Börd was, or how rude was his comment earlier... He couldn't do anything but to release a sigh. He turned his gaze... towards me?
"Mr. Aester, could you please help her to that empty seat next to you."
That took me by surprise... As I started standing up, I could already hear the others whispering. God... We were so deep in our hubris that we couldn't live without judging others. It's not about making yourself happy and satisfied, it's about bringing others down just so you're the only one above.
While delving into my thoughts, I had reached up to Freia. She probably felt my presence as she looked up to me. I whispered "Uhm... Lend me your hand, I'll guide you." Fuck! I felt my face getting hotter! Now the class was commenting on how I was blushing!
"Sure!" she said with a smile. My heart was beating rapidly at this point... How much would it if I took her hand?! I finally held her hand and pulled her back to my seat. I avoided the gaze being sent out by the rest of the class. As I reached my seat, I put her hand on the seat next to mine and whispered again "Here's yours." After that, I sat down on mine and looked out of the window. Actions like hiding my face or sighing would just further the murmuring of the class.
But damn my face was still heating up!
...
...
...
As I slowly regain my consciousness from sleeping, I saw the classroom was almost barren. Leaving only the loners of the class... Jennifer was eating silently while reading something on her phone. I looked at the clock above the whiteboard, it was lunch time. SGAS's lunch time was different from what normal schools had. Because of the wide campus of SGAS, lunch time was basically a short dismissal time as you could go back home to eat, get back here, and still have enough time to good off before classes start again. Some would take this time to have fun at the mall next to the school.
I saw also the seat next to me was empty... Maybe she got friends already to help her, huh? That's good.
I stretched and stood up to take the drowsiness away. I took my money and left the room to buy at the mall some food. I still got like 45 minutes so that's good. As I came down the stairs, I could see the familiar faux-hawk haircut... Oh no... It was Edward!
"Oh! Heya Gab!" I tried to ignore him but he took the initiative to get closer. "Have you ate yet?"
(Feigning) ignorance was out of the question, but a voiceless answer would still work so I shook my head as an answer.
"Oh good! I think got this slice of cake for you. Remember? The one Ms. Ravens asked." Then he suddenly tossed the cake slice to me. It was soft and wrapped up nicely in a plastic cover. "Oh and, I got you this drink. Well I accidentally got out for free. The machine glitched it out something, so I got an extra one," he continued and laughed for a bit.
God I hate his laugh. It had a wheezing sound like a smoker would but not raspy to sound like one. He also tossed the drink, it was a caffeinated drink... At least his sense of taste was mature enough.
"It was nice talking with ya but I gotta go. I was supposed to meet up with the guys at the mall, hahahaha!"
I nodded back as sign of thanks and headed back up the hallway again. How convenient that I got free food that quick... Wait, with that fortune, who know what kind of opposite fortune would exist next...
Let me explain, I had this belief that if something good happened to you, something bad would happen next as to equalize the early fortune. So because I gained the fortune of free food from close quarters, something bad would happen somewh—
"WAHH!"
"WAHH!"
Yup... There it was. At the same time I was discussing, I bumped into someone as I turned the corner. My drink and cake slice was thrown aside from the blow. And as if my life became an anime, I somehow fell over on top of her... And that 'her' was the class president, Jennifer Layluck.
Thank God my hands were away from her body and fell down in the floor like I'm in a push-up form. Looking up, I was face-to-face with the said President and I could certainly say that she's pissed off despite of her still emotionless expression.
"Could you get off already?" she whispered... Woah! That was literally the first time I heard her voice! And it sounded quite angelic even though what I was seeing was an angry-looking one.
Oh right, I had to stand up. "Oh, sorry..." I pushed myself up to crouch and stood up after. She sat right up and stood up as well. I offered her a hand but she dismissed the offer silently. She dusted herself off and turned once again at me.
"This didn't happen, alright?"
So it's a forgive-&-forget agreement, huh? "Sure, got no problem there..."
After that, she just nodded and left the premises quietly as always. Man... That was nerve-wrecking. I picked up my cake slice and coffee drink and left the premises also.
Was lunchtime this always hectic?
As I came into the classroom, I could see some new additions since I woke up. Maya's here and in front of her was the familiar blondish hair, Freia. Welp, glad she got Maya as her first friend, she'll get into the Popular Ones quick and easy. They were discussing the typical girly talks strangely yet commonly found in magazines.
"My God! Your yellow sweater matches with your blondish hair so perfect~" Maya said.
The other girl was visibly blushing so hard you could paint the flag of Japan with it.
"Thanks... My mom suggested I should wear this. She's a beautician too, so she also made my hair."
"Really?! A beautician?! Can I go there so she could do mine?"
"Sure, she'd be happy to!"
Really, really strange as it word per word came from a magazine. I soon noticed I was staring too much that Maya even noticed and called out to me. Looks like another it's another hectic obstacle...
"Hey Gab! HEEEEEEYYYYY~!"
"I heard you the second time already... You don't need to shout."
"Awww~ Somebody's a little salty..." then she took a jab at my arm. I was still suffering from her kick earlier in the chapter.
"Uhm..." a small voice said, "Pardon me but... What's your full name, uhh... Gab?"
Oh no... She had probably realized it by now. Welp, there's no time like today.
"It's Gabriel. Gabriel Aester."
She then smacked her hands down on the table and let out a gasp. "Gabriel!?"
I smiled bitterly at the fact that there's someone here that knows about my past, my happy and bright past. "Yep, it's me Frei. We've met once again."
