It was August 18th, 2017. A nice blue sky supported the time of 4:25 p.m. in the city of Los Angeles, California. Birds flew through the air, cars lined the sides and the middle of the roads, and civilians trotted along the sidewalks. Some were window shopping, some were enjoying the hot Summer day, some were simply gathered in groups engaging in conversation. The city was a relatively loud with chatter, which is what you'd expect from a metropolis powerhouse, but it would soon pick up later that night.
By now, some people were about to finish up their work at whichever job they held at that point. One of such people was twenty-five year-old Ericka "Boze" Bozeman, currently a host on the Youtube gaming branch of Smosh Enterprises called "Smosh Games". Having been a part of the channel for almost 3/4 of a year, you could say that she's cemented herself a comfortable place on the channel. At this time, she was about to film the gameplay for an upcoming episode of the series "Board AF", where the hosts play board games for their viewers.
This particular episode featured Boze playing "One Night Ultimate Vampire", alongside fellow hosts Mari Takahashi, Joshua "Jovenshire" Ovenshire, Amra "Flitz" Ricketts, Wesley "Wes" Johnson, and Damien Haas. In addition, Courtney Miller, an actress from the main Smosh channel had joined them as well. The group had already played the game twice before, one off-camera so they could record a logically-played game. Everyone was returning from a short break as Boze sat in the seat farthest to the left (from the cameras' point of view).
"Would y'all hurry up already?" Boze asked, wanting to get things moving.
"Sorry," Joven replied, taking the seat second from the right of the cameras' view.
"We don't have to rush," Wes insisted, taking the middle seat of the seven present, "This game shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes."
"I hope it doesn't take long," Mari remarked, taking the seat on the far right, "Peter and I have scheduled a Doctor Who marathon tonight."
"Good for you," Boze encouraged, "Always good to relax with someone close to you."
"Has anyone seen Courtney?" Damien asked, taking the seat directly to Wes' right, "She should be back by now."
"Last I saw her she was texting aggressively," Flitz admitted, taking a seat between Damien and Boze.
"Maybe she was texting Olivia," Mari suggested, taking a sip of water from her water bottle, "You know how playful those two are together."
"I'm sure she's fine," Wes insisted, "I wouldn't worry too much."
"Wow!" Joven exclaimed, having just looked at his phone.
"What is it, Joven?" Mari asked, "Realized the text font is too small to read?"
"Haha, very funny," Joven sarcastically replied, "Kate managed to find a plated Batman costume online that'll fit me!"
"Must have been all that Pilates," Damien remarked, chuckling a little bit.
"I bet that you'll look great in it," Boze complimented, "At least Kate is looking out for those kinds of things, y'know?"
"Like I said, Kate's got it," Joven noted, smiling to his phone.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late," Courtney announced, having just walked through the door into the studio.
"What were you doing?" Mari asked, curious over her absence.
"I was texting Wahlid," Courtney responded, taking a seat between Damien and Joven, "We're heading out for dinner tonight."
"Any place that we'd know?" Damien questioned.
"He's keeping that a secret," Courtney replied, "He likes to do that."
"Hope you have a good time," Boze stated, "I'm heading out with some friends to Boulevard3."
"I heard that some unknown bands will be performing tonight," Wes noted.
"I hope they're good," Flitz remarked, sitting up in his chair, "It's their time to shine."
"Alright guys!" Producer Matt Raub shouted from behind the cameras, "Is everyone ready?"
"Can you hear me Greg?!" Joven exclaimed into his clip-on microphone.
"Yes he can, Joven," Producer Alex Hluch answered from behind the cameras, "Although that might have been overkill."
"But at least we know the microphones work." Mari rationalized.
"I'll take that as a yes," Cameraman Brennan Ikentani interrupted, "Cameras rolling!"
"Begin next game in 3, 2, 1, action!" Matt Raub announced.
"Alright! Where are the role cards?" Joven asked, signaling Tim from Tim's Channel to give the cards to them.
"They're right in my hand," Tim replied as he walked on screen, "But I will note that to shake things up, I am switching out three of the roles from the last game with three new ones."
"Ooh, time to get shook!" Flitz exclaimed, waving his arms upwards.
"Firstly, taking the place of The Master, we have The Count," Tim announced, holding the card up to the nearest camera, "The Count is on the vampire team and wakes up with the other vampires. In addition, The Count also gets to give someone a mark of 'fear'. This prevents the person with the mark to do their night action if it occurs during the night phase."
"You shall fear me!" Joven stated in a Gollum voice.
"Alrighty then," Tim remarked, looking at Joven in surprise and then back to the camera, "Next, replacing the Diseased role is the Thing. The thing must bump the shoulder of the person on their left or their right."
"Bump bump bump," Flitz sang, proceeding to beatbox afterwards as the others looked at him in confusion. "What? Don't you remember that song?"
"Nope, no one does," Wes answers, giggling to himself.
"And the final role, replacing the Priest is the Instigator," Tim declares, holding the card up to the lens once again, "The Instigator gets to place the mark of the 'traitor' in front of any person. The person with said mark can only win if someone on their team dies."
"So if I'm a vampire and I get the mark of the traitor, I can easily rat out any other vampire and I win?" Boze asked, wanting clarification.
"That's correct," Tim replies, turning around and passing out the cards to the players, "All the other roles: the Vampire, the Renfield, Cupid, the Assassin, the Pickpocket, the Marksman, and the Gremlin are still in play."
"This time around, because a lot of you in the comments of the stream didn't like how everyone was talking over me, we've decided to use the app!" Joven announced as Tim finished placing the cards in the right places.
"Alright everyone, please take a look at your role card now," Tim declared as he began setting up the app for the game.
"So, now what?" Wes asked, having already looked at his card.
"Make sure that you have a mark of clarity," Courtney reminded.
"Joven can sure use a mark of clarity," Mari added.
"A bit unnecessary..." Joven noted.
"Don't worry, they'll cut it out in the edit," Damien assured, caring for Joven.
"Alright guys, the phone is ready," Tim announced as he placed it down on the table, "Has everybody looked at their card, know what they are, and have a mark of clarity?"
"Yes," the seven hosts confirmed simultaneously.
"Alright, I've set the app up so you have a lot of time to make a decision," Tim announced, "Remember, you must find some way to gesture your desired action to me, and I shall do whatever is needed. The game starts now!"
I didn't really want to jump straight into the love aspect of the story. I wanted to provide a little bit of a setup for it in order to add a little bit more realism to the story. Boze is going to be in a certain mood when she comes into contact with her mystery man, and her workday seemed to be the perfect opportunity to set her emotional state. I hope that I have portrayed each person with justice. If anyone reads this story, please do not hesitate to write a comment on your thoughts.
