HARRY'S POV
"And I'll have the house special," I say handing the menu back to the waiter, concluding our order.
"Aah, yes! Good choice, good choice," the grey haired man responds. Noting that my water glass is already empty, he scurries away and returns shortly with a pitcher of water.
"I see you two are best mates again," Zayn accuses pointing his finger at Liam and me. We were sitting next to each other, and had been talking since we arrived at the restaraunt. "It's about damn time. You two fight like girls, holding grudges the way you do."
"Fighting and playing house together like little girls," Louis teases. I pick up a dinner roll and throw it at my friend. "ABUSE! ABUSE!" he hollers, clutching his left shoulder where the bread hit him. "I will not tolerate your abuse, Harry Edward Styles!"
All the boys, myself included, are laughing hysterically at the little scene Louis has caused. Leave it up to Louis to lighten the mood.
As a follow-up on Zayn's statement, Liam raises an eyebrow at me, silently asking if we are on good terms again. I nod.
After Alice had left the house this afternoon, I knew I needed to talk to Liam. I owed him an apology for my behavior, a thank you for keeping his mouth shut about my issues in front of Alice, and a formal explanation regarding Alice. I called him and gave him each like he deserved, but before we hung up, Liam made it very clear that he didn't agree with me, but that he would support me.
I couldn't blame him, though. If I had been in Liam's shoes and witnessed my best friend messing up like I had, I wouldn't agree with his behavior- especially over a girl he had met hours earlier. Shit, I probably wouldn't even support him. But that was the difference in Liam and me. Liam would support me no matter what. Why had it taken a girl to make me realize this?
A girl- I think- my girl. My Alice.
I had to change for her- no- I wanted to change for her. I would become a better person for her. From the moment I met Alice, something about her told me that she would help me change. I needed her in my life.
I tune out my obnoxious friends and let my mind drift to thoughts of her sweet smile. I wish she were here with me right now.
The boys become much less rowdy as a few fans approach our table. We all smile and wave the apprehensive girls over to our table. One little girl of about five walks over to where I am seated.
"Hi, Harry," she squeaks, taking baby steps towards my chair. It is obvious that she is star struck and very shy.
"Can we take a quick picture?" her mom asks me, pointing to a camera. She nudges her daughter closer to me.
"Yeah, of course!" I stand up, and squat down so that me and the little girl are face to face. "Hi, princess! What's your name?"
"Ella," she shyly looks down, barley breathing.
"Lovely to meet you, Ella. My name is Harry," I tell her. She covers her mouth and giggles that I have introduced myself.
"I know who you are, silly!" she squeals. " I have eight posters and one pillow of you at home!"
I can't help but to laugh at her genuine response and childhood innocence. Getting to talk with little kids was one of my favorite parts of being famous. I pull her into my arms in a big hug and smile for a couple of pictures, and then autograph the napkin she has brought over.
As I stand up to return to my seat, the little girl's mom gently touches my wrist. I turn around to face her.
"Please don't be careless, okay?" she begins. Confused, I nod. "It's just that you have all these little eyes watching your every move. What I'm trying to say is that Ella idolizes you, and I don't want her to see everything you have been doing recently and think it's okay."
I am baffled, but nod anyway. Had my actions these past few months really been that bad? Was my reputation finally starting to catch up to me?
"I'm sorry," Ella's mom apologizes, "I am so out of line saying this to you, but I just don't want to see you loose everything you have worked so hard for."
As I return to my seat, I fight to keep my mouth from falling open in shock. The fans have left and the boys are all staring at me.
"What was that?" Niall chuckles.
"Bro, that mom just pulled you aside. Did you get her number?" Louis jeers. He is kidding, but his comment is hurtful, especially given my recent history. He immediately realizes his mistake. "Shit. I wasn't even thinking. I don't know why I said that."
I brush him off. I know he didn't mean anything by it. "It's fine, don't worry about it."
Everyone but Liam seems confused by my unexpectedly calm response. I consider bringing up Alice in an effort to explain myself, but decide against it. The last thing I want is them thinking Alice was just another girl; I wanted to prove to them that I had changed before I told them about her. That way, they would take me more seriously.
"Damn paps," Liam groans, trying to change the subject. The number of flashing lights outside the window have reached record high since we had been seated.
"There's got to be at least twenty of them," Zayn notes. All the boys turn to look out the window at Zayn's observation. Suddenly, Liam nudges me in the side.
"Hey, isn't that Alice?" he whispers, cocking his head towards a girl walking with her family towards the entrance of the restaurant. The gray shirt with the little red heart on the side is all the proof I need to know it is her.
"No freaking way." I breathe. I manage to control my voice while my heart is doing backflips inside of my chest.
"Are you going to tell them?"
"Tell who?" I ask. Now that she is right outside, all I can concentrate on is Alice. Liam might as well be having a one sided conversation.
"Tell the other three!" Liam states obviously. I watch as Alice squeezes her way through the paparazzi and fans. I can't take my eyes off her. "Harry! Hello?" Liam's attempts to refocus my attention are no use. "Mate, you have it bad. She's got you hanging on her every damn move."
I don't bother protesting. The old me would have never allowed Liam to get away with saying such things, but I don't mind now. After all, what he said was true- Alice stole my heart before I even knew I had enough of a heart to give to someone, and I was willing to do whatever it took to make my beautiful girl mine.
