"Jeez, really?!" Lyyn exclaimed a bit exaggerating with her reaction as she saw how confused you looked. "Girl, that was predictable, you're the best player in our team," she lowered her voice so only you could hear it.
"I don't really think so, you know," you started blowing off compliments with a shy smile on your face, but both of you knew that you enjoyed getting it, so Lyyn slapped your shoulder and you laughed together. "Well, after boasting a bit, I have some not-so-good news," you exhaled and looked at the Jungkook's direction, who also was in the same tennis center as you. He was talking to his friends who you saw for the first time as well. As it was said by Jungkook, "our center is now on repairing, we're transferred here, but not for long."
While driving to the court, you had a little conversation with him, trying to find any aspect that could reveal his secret about taking your place in the rating, but he seemed as a usual guy who didn't really care about studying and paid his whole attention to his hobby and friends.
"What the hell? How so good-looking yet smart and outgoing?" you thought to yourself, biting your lip and furrowing your eyebrows.
"So? The news?"
Lyyn snapped her fingers in front of your face making you jolt in shock and turn your attention back to her.
"Um... I'm not the first student at school anymore," you made a worried expression as if you were asking Lyyn to reassure you. "That guy over here took my place."
You pointed at Jungkook with your index finger, and Lyyn turned her head to look at that jerk who ventured on messing with her friend. She looked back at you and chuckled, pointing at Jungkook behind her shoulder.
"Jeon Jungkook?" she convinced. "He's my classmate!"
You pursed your lips as if Lyyn had said something extra silly.
"He used to be, actually, about a year ago or so," she continued as she pressed her index finger against her lips pretending to calculate the exact date.
"And you didn't tell me about that hot guy in your class, did you?" you squinted, twisting the rocket in your hands. "I'm disappointed, Wang Lyyn".
You both laughed and started another conversation, excluding any references to Jeon Jungkook. Lyyn obviously wasn't interested a bit, but you couldn't help yourself but thinking about that guy even during the practice.
The weather, sultry before the evening rain yet windy with an autumn breeze, turned the whole tennis training into a challenge since it soaked all the strength from your muscles and all the beauty from your, now crimson, face. The trainer executed your team literally, made you warm up as if you were going to do a marathon, then he told you to take your stuff and go to the empty court, where you could practice your hitting skills for the upcoming tournament. You were chosen as the most skillful in your team, but you also were an ace in a hole, so no one should know about your participation.
The court was desolated. Instead of grabbing tennis balls in a basket you sat down on a bench and threw you racket on the rubberized garnet floor, leaning backward on the cold wall. Here, under metallic canopy, was the only one place where burning sunlight couldn't reach. You exhaled exhaustingly, placing your hands on your knees and closing your eyes for a moment. Approaching footsteps echoed in your consciousness.
"Tired?"
You opened one eye and saw the familiar face with an indefinite smile plastered on. His teeth reminded you of a rabbit, but you kept that observation to yourself, inquiringly rising your brow at him.
"Your trainer sent me here," Jungkook explained and sit next to you on the bench. "I'm going to the tournament too."
Just like taking your place in the rating, Jungkook even participated in the same tournament as you. He appeared in your life out of the blue, you didn't even know his name until today, but he was now your handsome competitor with no visible drawbacks. You continued sitting with eyes shut and pretending not being bothered by this jerk.
