Forever is a lie

Introduction

Like how it has been happening in all my recent gatherings, they're talking about her. They're asking about her death. They're asking me if I'm alright. They're sorry for my loss.
But does it make any difference now? No.

Does it make me feel any better?
No.

In fact, it makes me feel worse. It makes me miss her more. It makes me feel so guilty - because I could've saved her life. I could've stopped her from crossing the road and that white Jeep wouldn't have ran over her.
The two families, the many friends and I wouldn't have had to wait for so long in the hospital to know if she's alive or dead. In the end, we wouldn't have had to cry over her death.

"Are you doing concerts these days, Darsh?", my mom's friend asks me. "No Aunty. Still on a break", I reply.

"You should go away from home, son", Vindya Aunt, my mom's sister, tells me and I simply nod. "I'll tell your Uncle to book tickets to Goa", Vindya Aunt says and I nod again.

A trip is not going to fix this, nothing can fix this. But maybe I do need a break from answering their questions.

"Vindya said their wedding was supposed to be next year", I hear someone from the back whisper to someone else. "Destiny, what to do", the other person replies. "She was a nice girl, very humble and pretty", the lady behind me continues to whisper. My heart drops - she 'was' a nice girl - I wish she still lived.

I don't want to hear about her. I'm trying hard to forget everything. I'm trying to forget her, but somehow everything keeps coming back at me daily. Although I'm not an expert in remembering details about an incident, there are five such incidents I can never forget.

The day we met. The day we went on our first date. The day she said 'Yes'. The day we got engaged. And, the day she left...everyone. I was there and I saw it.
