The same night of our midnight coffee date, I asked her out...for a lifetime.
I still remember that night, the adrenaline rush, the nerves and everything about her
Although I looked calm on the outside, I had a heated debate inside my head on whether or not to ask her 'Will you marry me, Taniya?'. I wanted to know whether all this meant something to her, but I also feared rejection - what if nothing stays the same anymore? I decided to go with it and face whatever came afterwards - I decided to ask her if she wanted to marry me.
I lifted my head to look at her, and I caught her smiling at something on her phone - the sight was beautiful. Her hair was let loose open, and the little dimple on the left side of her cheek was clearly visible - that moment, I secretly prayed to God to let me have her forever, let me see something so beautiful everyday...but now it looks like God never heard me at all.
I cleared my throat and pressed my hands together, I was nervous and I prayed that it wasn't visible - I prayed a little too much that night.
"Taniya, listen", I called out and she looked up at me immediately.
"I need to talk", I told her and she switched off her phone, and kept it aside.
"Say", she said in her ever so soft voice.
Honestly, I felt that she was made of something soft...like flower or cotton...because everything she said or did just touches the eyes, ears and obviously, the heart and soul.
She stared at my coffee cup, waiting for me to speak up, and I looked at her. "I just want to know what's next", I said and took a pause.
"Our parents spoke about everything and they think that this will happen, but you and I haven't had a word about this. I mean, you didn't really say anything", I continued.
"What are you and I settling down for? A marriage or simply these hangouts?", I took a slight pause then.
She pressed her palmss together and inhaled, nervously.
"Taniya, listen, I'm not forcing you into anything, I just want to hear it from you. Don't stress about it", I told her and placed my right hand on her hands.
"Do you want to marry me?", I finally asked.
