A lot had happened since Gabriel and I had our little contest. Dean Winchester went to Hell and broke the first seal, Castiel was sent to rescue him by Michael, and currently the angels were fighting with the demons to stop the seals from being broken. Gabriel and I wanted to stay out of it. If Lucifer rose, perhaps I'd step in to stop him from killing Michael and Michael from killing Lucifer, but there was no other reason for me to get involved. Gabriel and I had found a decent apartment to hide in while the angels were looking for us. We could no longer hide out in the open, instead we had to cower in the dark as they searched. Our tricks kept us hidden for now, but it would only be a matter of time before Michael or some other angel found us.
"Feels like Greece all over again," I muttered, standing by a window and peeking through the shades.
"Yeah. Or Rome, Egypt, Salem, and the Cold War," Gabriel sighed.
"He's going to find us this time, Gabriel," I said, turning away from the window and walking to the couch where my brother sat, "I'm only going to hope he's merciful."
"Well, he'll be merciful to you," my brother replied, "Me, not so much."
"Don't be ridiculous, Gabriel. Michael wouldn't spare either of us. We ran from Heaven and eluded him for centuries. He's going to be royally pissed," I sighed, sitting down on the couch and watching the door carefully.
"The only thing that kept us out of reach for so long was being able to hear them," Gabriel pointed out.
"It's surprising that we thought we were safe enough to disable it," I commented, moving to lean against his side. The TV was playing cartoons, old reruns of course, although neither of us were paying attention to it in the slightest. We were quiet for a while, Gabriel for once not chewing on candy or making any kind of joke.
"I hope it's Castiel that finds us," I said quietly.
"He's always been niave," Gabriel agreed, "Also he's been away for a long time and wouldn't find much reason to blame us."
"Unless someone tells him lies about why we left," I added.
"Did they come up with a cover story as to why an archangel and an honorary archangel left all of a sudden? I thought they just straight up said, 'oh well they're gone, go hunt them down.'"
I couldn't suppress a laugh at the humorous take on the angels' reaction to our disappearance. It was a bit silly, thinking about it now. Two of Heaven's most powerful drop out of existence, and elude Heaven's most powerful warrior for centuries.
"Since using magic could give us away, one of us should go by the store and get food for the next couple of days. We're running low," I said, my gaze wandering to the nearly empty fridge.
"I'll go," Gabriel started, but I pulled him back down.
"You are the complete opposite of discrete, always have been. I've been overlooked my entire life, Gabriel. I'll go," I stood up, grabbing my coat. Before I could leave through the open door, Gabriel grabbed my arm.
"Be safe, Sister," my brother said. I could see the concern in his golden gaze, and hugged him.
"I know you'll find me if anything happens," I replied. Leaving with a last glance at the closed door, I made my way down the stairs and out into the street. I pulled up the hood on my jacket, zipping it up to hide the tattoo. If they couldn't see my face, it was possible they could recognize me from my tattoo. I walked to the store, jumping at every little sound and watching everyone carefully in a terrified state of mind. Despite knowing that Gabriel would indeed find me if I were in trouble, I was still not too keen on finding out just what our brothers and sisters had in mind if they saw me.
