"What the hell was that all about??" I ask Jaimie on our way to Spanish class.
"I don't know. But you'd better stay away from him." she answered in a serious tone.
"Why? He's just so...interesting. I-"
"I mean it, Sierra. He is the opposite of interesting and nothing but trouble. He's not one of the people you want to be hanging out with, never mind dating." She caught me off guard, causing me to stop for a moment.
"What? Dating?" I ask. "I don't. I mean, I... I just don't date. I don't like dating guys. It never ends well."
"Well good, cause nether does he. I'm only trying to help you, Sierra. This is your first day. I've been here for years. Don't trust him."
"I won't." I half lie. There is something about him.
"This one." Jaimie points to a classroom door. I walk into a loud classroom, alive with students. The teacher is about 40, tall and pretty well built, making him almost intimidating, until he smiles. It's a warm smile, welcoming.
"Buenos Dias." He greets me. "You must be Maddie. You can take a seat wherever you'd like." He had a warm smile and a Spanish accent. His black hair was frosted with white from old age.
I sat next to a girl with long dark brown hair in a side braid. "Hey." I said shyly.
"Hey! I'm Lauren." she smiled sweetly.
"That's pretty!" I flattered her. "I'm Sierra."
"I know who you are." She laughed. "I heard all about you and Harry in the halls. You are so lucky he didn't like beat you up or something!" she gasped.
"Beat me up?" I gasped. "But I'm-"
"A girl? I never said it was right, but that's just Harry. It's what he does. He's dangerous."
"Holy shit! That's horrible!"
"I know. He-"
"Alright class, settle down. Set a good example for the new student." the teacher interrupted the chatter flowing through the classroom.
Everyone's head turned in my direction and my face turned crimson. I hated it when people would stare at me, and now, I was the center of attention.
I hid in my hoodie until almost all eyes were no longer focused on me.
We started the lesson and I spent the entire class asking myself questions about him, playing with my pencil, that is of course until it flew out of my hands and across the room, and occasionally whispering something to Lauren.
Soon after, the bell rang and everyone rushed out of the classroom into the halls and down the stairs. I followed Jaimie to a huge cafeteria alive with students.
I sat at her table and she introduced me to her friends. There was Kayla, who was short with brown curly hair and sparkling brown eyes, Lily had red hair and freckles, and Lia, who was tall and blonde, with green eyes. I've always loved green eyes best of all. They were rare.
By the time the bell rang, I had barely touched my cheeseburger, and had only eaten a few potato chips. Jaimie walked to my locker and luckily there was no sign of him. We had a few more boring classes, then gym, and then it was time to leave. I was exhausted. So much for a perfect first day of school.
"You want to come over my place today so we can study?" Jaimie asked me.
"Sure. I'll ask my mom." I went to my purse to text my mom, but I couldn't find my phone. Last time I had it was in...
"Shit, I left my phone in the gym. I'll be right back. Wait for me at the door?" I asked.
"Okay." Jaimie smiled. "Hurry up."
I ran down the halls to the empty gymnasium and grabbed my phone off of the bleachers, but when I turned around, I found myself face to face with Harry, who I'd been trying to avoid.
Guess I failed.
