"Have you got the list of school supplies with you?" Newt asked his daughter.
The two of them were sat at a table in the corner of the Leaky Cauldron, each of them sipping on a Butterbeer. Before she left for England, Persephone's family had thrown her a little going away party. All her family had been there and, as a parting gift, her Uncle Jacob had given her more than enough cakes, sweets and other baked goods to last her the journey to Hogwarts. The next day, she set off for England with her father. They had crossed the ocean on a steamship, as both Persephone and her father were carrying cases containing magical creatures. Going through muggle customs would draw much less attention to them as they would be less likely to be suspected of carrying any magical beasts. Being on a steamship was also a completely new experience for Persephone, who rarely had reason to use muggle transportation. She had been excitedly running through the ship's narrow corridors for much of the way there. Upon arriving in England, they had travelled straight to London, in order to buy Persephone's school supplies.
"Yeah, it's right here!" She said, pulling the letter from her pocket.
"Can you read it out to me?" Newt asked.
"Okay," she nodded. "First of all: uniform. First-year students will require:
1. Three sets of plain work robes (black)
2. One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear
3. One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)
4. One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings)"
"Okay, we can get all of that from Madam Malkin's," Newt said. "What next?"
"Course books. All students should have a copy of each of the following: The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk, A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander-" she laughed. "That's yours!"
"So it is!" Newt laughed.
"I didn't know you were famous!" Persephone giggled.
"Well, I'm not really, it's just I-"
"Dad, they're using your book to teach at Hogwarts." Persephone said, looking back at the list. "And lastly, I need The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble."
"Well, we can get all the books from Flourish and Blotts. Is that it?" asked Newt.
"There's a section called Other Equipment," Persephone said. "I need a wand -" Persephone gasped, "I get my own wand! 1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2), 1 set glass or crystal phials, 1 telescope, 1 set brass scales. Students may also bring, if they desire, an owl OR a cat OR a toad."
She looked at Newt, confused. "A Golden Ogost isn't an owl OR a cat OR a toad."
"Don't worry," Newt laughed. "Just don't tell anyone, it'll be fine. I used to keep all sorts of creatures... Anyway, you almost done with your Butterbeer?"
"Yep," Persephone said before downing the remaining half of her Butterbeer, earning her a sigh from her father. Wiping the foam from her upper lip, she said "I don't get why we couldn't have just bought all of this at home?"
"Well, you can only get Hogwarts robes here in Diagon Alley," Newt said, leading her through the tables to the courtyard out the back. "Besides, this is where I came to get all of my supplies when I went to Hogwarts. You might even meet some friends here who will be in the same year as you.
"Will everyone at Hogwarts know who you are?" Persephone asked, a worried tone to her voice.
"Well, you did say I was famous!" Newt joked.
