I hesitated, words failing to leave my mouth. Luke was getting slightly irritated, "Riley, you're not going to back out on us now are you?" I looked up at James who was just staring at me expecting an answer: I couldn't let him down. "Count me in." A sigh of relief left Levi's voice. Before Luke could say another word he was interrupted by a feminine voice behind me. A tall, dark-haired figure stood a couple of inches away from me. Her plump lips formed a smirk as she stood eyeing everyone individually one at a time.
James' grasp on me slowly loosened as he turned around to go and approach her along with everyone else. "Evelyn, can't say I've seen much of you lately," exclaimed my boyfriend visibly excited to see her. She strutted upto Luke embracing him in a short hug slightly towering over him. The sharp smell of styrax travelled up my nose as she came closer to me going in to hug James. "He invited me here," she looked besides her indicating at Levi. Everybody chuckled eventhough her remark held no humour whatsoever. "So I'm going to repeat this again for the sake of our dear Evelyn. We're going to play a little old school and toilet paper Mark's house. He deserves it, hopefully then next time he'll consider who he is messing with."
"Its a little childish don't you think?" I voiced, clearly annoyed. Truth be told I was in no mood to do whatever the boys had planned. "I actually think its a wonderful idea, don't you agree James?" She glanced at me with a devious smirk before her eyesight focused back on my boyfriend. "I have to agree with Evelyn here Ri, I mean it'll be so unexpected, we'll catch him of guard."
"Yeah but isn't this a little too far." I was trying to ignore the fact Evelyn had her hands wrapped around James' arm and just concentrate on his face. "Oh come on Riley, stop being such a mood killer, it'll be fun." Did he really just say that? I didn't even reply to that. Alex gave me a pitiful while Evelyn was trying to contain her glee by biting her lips. I was extremely tempted to walk upto her and give her a piece of my mind although that would be extremely pointless. "Well then it's settled, we're doing it," screamed Luke who was clealy excited to proceed with the plan.Everyone ran towards the grey minivan which was parked at the end of the alley. I steadily paced behind the crew, kicking the pebbles in my path to the side. James decided to drive and obviously Evelyn wanted to sit next to him. I however was wedged between Levi and Alex, Luke was sitting on the seat behind us.
The more closer we were to reaching the house, the more hesitant I became. My breathing slowly increased and my palms were a lot more clammier than they were a minute ago. James seemed to notice this when he glanced at me through the rearview mirror. "You okay Riley?" Concern was evident in his tone but I didn't want to worry him even more. "Yeah no, I'm fine." He was slightly sceptical but decided to shrug it off. "Hey Riley, if it makes you feel any better they're not home. They're supposedly on some holiday in Montreal," reassured Alex- I smiled at him in response. I could always count on him to make me feel better, he was like an older brother to me.
We eventually parked up a few houses down from his. This was it, now there was no turning back. Everyone covered their faces in black masks so they couldn't be identified by the CCTV cameras which were plotted everywhere and hurried onto Mark's front porch.
I was handed a roll of toilet paper and thanked the person who gave it without bothering to check who it was. I just observed as everyone was going crazy, I really didn't want to do this.
The piercing sound of police sirens surrounded us causing everyone to abruptly stop what they were doing however the noise became more distant as it was getting more quieter until all you could hear was owls tooting from far away. The crew just laughed it off genuinely believing they were about to get caught continuing with what they were about to do. Evelyn was the first to throw toilet paper on the tree and soon after everyone else followed.
I hadn't even moved a step before my breathing increased yet again. I could feel my heart slamming against my chest, I don't know what was happening to me. Usually when we commit a crime, which usually consists of stealing or fraud or even quite simply underage drinking (because we were seventeen) I don't get nearly as anxious as I feel right now. Yes, I do get sweaty and nervous but this feeling was unoriginal, I couldn't properly explain what was happening.
I wanted to call out someones name, for someone to help me as my legs were starting to feel get weaker and I couldn't hold myself up however I was unable to speak no matter how hard I tried. Fortunately, James noticed my eyes were getting drowsy, how I was unable to stand up straight. He dropped whatever he was holding and sprinted towards me but I couldn't do it anymore. Eventually all I could see was black dots blurring my vision. No matter how hard I tried to keep my eyes open I couldn't do it. James screaming my name in desperation was the last thing I heard before everything went black.
I haven't written a oneshot in ages, I think its been like a year? I apologise for this crappy chapter and rushed ending but it is twelve at night and I'm exhausted sooo :)
