Stiles thanked the waiter as he brought out their main course, wowed by the gorgeous looking food in front of him.
Derek smiled at him from across the table, making Stiles blush and smile back. Even after four years of being together, just a grin from Derek made Stiles' stomach do flip flops and his chest tighten to the point that he was dizzy. When Derek looked at him in that way, he knew exactly what was being said. You're mine, I'm so glad you're mine, I love you so much. Derek had explained it to him once, a couple of months into them dating. The gaze meant you're mine, the smile meant I'm so glad you're mine and the little exhale at the end meant I love you so much. Neither of them had thought that exactly four years after that first kiss, they'd still be as in love as ever.
Neither of them would ever forget that first kiss. They were sat in Stiles' living room, Derek teaching him how to control his newly acquired werewolf powers, and Stiles wasn't doing as well as he'd have liked. He'd sighed and muttered something about not having an anchor because nobody loved him like that. Derek had frowned and mumbled under his breath about how Stiles was oblivious to everything. Ironically enough, Derek was unaware that Stiles had heard him because he'd forgotten that Stiles was no longer human and could hear everything Derek was huffing and puffing. Stiles had eventually blurted out "Derek Hale, if you don't kiss me instead of muttering insults under your breath I am going to kick you out and line my house with mountain ash."
Derek had kissed him, of course, and they'd sat there for hours giggling and pecking at each others' lips.
"Babe," Derek beamed, "Try some."
Stiles looked down at the fork Derek was holding in front of his mouth and took the bite, chewing slowly and then sighing contently when he'd swallowed the pasta.
"You have the best taste in restaurants. Here, have a bit of mine." Stiles offered a small forkful of his own food and Derek took it quickly, his eyes widening at the flavours. Stiles laughed at the face Derek was pulling.
"Love, I'm leaving you for this food." Stiles moaned, laughing at Derek's mock offence.
Derek was positively glowing tonight. Watching his soulmate enjoying spending time together was obviously something he'd always love, but he was so glad that tonight was going well. He'd half expected the restaurant to blow up and there be nowhere to go, but thankfully everything seemed to be going as he'd planned. Stiles had whined at first, when Derek had told him that he had to dress up, but had softened up with kisses and chocolates and a shared bath. After all, it was Derek's turn to plan their anniversary this year. They took it in turns, and Derek was very glad that it was his turn as he wasn't quite sure that he could've waited much longer to pop the question.
"Is everything good with your meal this evening, gentlemen?" The waiter asked.
"Absolutely fantastic." Derek beamed.
"Brilliant, thank you." Stiles added.
The waiter nodded and left the table, when Stile giggled and kicked Derek under the table.
"Since when are you so happy and polite?" He asked Derek, practically scraping his plate now.
Derek shrugged, "I'm in a really good mood. I'm here with you and there's nothing more I could ever want."
Stiles blushed at that, and come on, who wouldn't? Derek was always such a big tough scary guy to outsiders but Stiles had gotten to know him as a cuddly, needy, caring person and he couldn't envision anyone else filling Derek's place in his heart. When they'd first got together, they'd thought that maybe it was the alpha-beta dynamic but soon realised that this was nothing but pure, normal human love. Stiles loved Derek, Derek loved Stiles, and that was it.
