BTS - The Friend on the Train

So...new characters have been introduced!

Firstly we have Bella - the girl Perci meets on the train. Then we have Rita Skeeter and Heather and Marcus McKinnon. And, of course, we get see Frank once again. I'm really excited to explore how all of these characters will interact with each other at Hogwarts!!

The name of Persephone's owl (Farzy) is based off one of the nicknames given to my fellow Hufflepuff and friend Farzana. (Quack!)  

This scene actually came to me quite naturally, although I wrote it in a completely random order!

I started with the basic introduction of Bella, going into their conversation on the train. Then I added in the scene where they meet Rita Skeeter. After that I basically left it for a month or so, then wrote the scene with Persephone and Newt at the train station. Then, as a way to make the transition smoother, I decided to have Frank talk to Bella as she boards the train.

Again, I then left it for another week or so before I decided I didn't like how the chapter originally ended and so I added in the scene with Frank, Heather and Marcus.

I then spoke to my friend Zoe, who is an actual angel and is always happy to offer advice on how to improve chapters. So, I took her advice on board and finished writing the chapter by going  back through and tidying some bits up.

Like I said, this scene came quite naturally to me and I didn't really get writer's block. And while this meant I was able to write it relatively quickly, it also meant that I was word vomiting and not everything made sense. So I also had to spend A LOT of time editing this scene (again - THANK YOU ZOE!!!). But, after a while, editing becomes tiring. So (those of you who follow me on twitter may have seen me tweet this) I ended up writing some really random phrases into the chapter (which I later deleted). For example Bella's description originally read:

"With pale skin, dark eyes and a jawline that could f**king cut a b*tch, she naturally caught everyone's eye."

Of course, I removed any such phrases to keep this as P.G. as possible!!

In terms of references that I put in this scene, I included a little a nod to a spell someone tries to cast on their first journey to Hogwarts. (Did you spot that?)

Also, feel free to let me know what you thought of the chapter and what you think might happen next! Honestly my favourite thing is recieving feedback about the things I publish - it helps me improve and it's also great to know what people thought of it!
