One afternoon, while tending to the horses, I was happily humming a tune when Dorothy came in.

"Hey Felicia, can I ask you something?" I raised my head with a welcoming smile. "Sure Dorothy." She took a deep breath before releasing it.

"How are you so...kind to people?" I rolled my eyes, knowing exactly why she was asking.

"You got in trouble with Miss Gulch again didn't you?" "She started it!" I laughed. "I'm serious!!" "I know. Have you told Auntie Em?" "I tried, she and Uncle Henry just won't listen." I sighed before dusting off my hands.

"You know, most older sisters wouldn't come to the younger one for advice." "Well we're not like most sisters." I smiled, she returned it happily.

"To answer your question, I'm kind because I feel like it. Not 'cause someone's gonna reward me for it, or it's a paying job, simply because I want to." Pause.

"I can't resist being nice, just like you can't resist getting in trouble." "Hey!" And with a laugh, I ran out the door with a playfully angry sister in hot pursuit.

A bit later, I lay on my bed as I looked up at the ceiling, thinking about what Dorothy said.

Why am I so nice? Even before I ended up here, I was always such a simple child. When I get mad, I can never bring myself to show it. I've never lashed out to anyone, and when I cry the whole world seems to weep with me.

"Is it a blessing or a curse? I may never know..." I whispered to no one in particular. I was just about to let my mind wander when one of the workers shouted something that made my blood run cold.

"It's a twister!"
