John couldn't explain himself, he couldn't explain what he felt or what he was experiencing. Because he truly had no idea what being in love felt like to him. It destroyed him as he tried to figure out what had been going on with him. The way he talked had been affected, the way he spoke, and thought, all the way down to the way he breathed was completely off compared to the way it used to be.He hadn't been "normal" since he had met Alexander.
"Why the fuck does he make me feel so weird?" He whined to his friend Lafayette, holding a cold cup of beer in his hand, body slung over the counter top of a bar. Lafayette merely smiled and twisted the stool top with his hips giddily, swinging his feet back and fourth like a child. If John didn't know any better he could've sworn that his friend was enjoying his confusion. "What are you smirking about?" He said with an etch in his voice. But the friend didn't seem to be bothered.
"Nothing really, you just seem tense over this, what for?" He said, smooth in tone and expression. John's lips twitched with aggravation, mostly because he couldn't even pin point an answer himself.
"I just don't get it, I've never felt this way with anyone. He makes me feel so nervous and mad at myself for no reason." His eyebrows drew together and his heart wretched in its place, collecting enough evidence from his emotions to jump to conclusions, "I fucking hate him."
"Are you fucking stupid." He heard from across the counter to see the bartender, rolling up his sleeves only to cross his arms in a frustrated demeanour. Tattoos crawled along his skin and a laminated name tag gleaming the name "Hercules" was pinned to his uniform. John was feeling an unimaginable sense of rage thrive in his gut, half because of genuine anger, the other half because of the liquor he had consumed. But his conscience seemed to linger, this man was much bigger than him, and one hit from him would result in a trip to the ER.
"Hey, that seems pretty ballsy to say to a customer pal." John said through his teeth. Whereas Lafayette couldn't stop himself from giggling off to the side. "Laff could you shut up and stop smiling."
"Mon dieu." He chortled, "The man here called you stupid because you are so out of touch with your emotions. You keep mixing them up!"
"What the hell are you saying. I hate Alex, he makes me hate myself, what else is there to say."
"Oh my god do I have to spell it out." The bartender groaned with a pop of his eyes and a hand running through his hair. "You don't hate him kid, you're in love."
"What?"
"You heard him." The man beside him said, finally able to breathe from his laughing fit. "You already know what hate feels like, hate is very common. But love?" He twisted himself back to face his cup, "not so much."
"Tell me, you ever had a crush?" Hercules asked as he wiped down a few cups with a rag. Laurens didn't respond right away, he was still processing all these words being blown at him one after the other. How can he be in love? He was too young to know right? He had been expecting to know love after thirty, maybe even forty, settle down, buy a house. And he especially wasn't expecting love to be found in a man. But when he was analyzing the question in his own mind, he had come to the realization.
"No."
"Do you ever look at a girl and wonder what they'd look like naked?" The man asked again.
