"Where are you, Lily?"
"I am on my way, at the gate. I stepped inside."
"What are you wearing?"
"Clothes, why do you ask?"
"I know that you are wearing clothes, what clothes?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Because, I am at the main gate and I can't spot you."
"But I can. Hang up, I am coming towards you."
He did and I start walking towards James. I am sure why he can't spot me is because he is looking for a girl wearing one of those long skirts and a full sleeved shirt. So wrong, he thinks I will come dressed like that, he is in for a surprise.
"BOO."
James jumps and I laugh. He turns and I can't stop laughing. His expression is so funny.
"Wow, I could not even recognize you."
"That's the point, if I know that no one will know that it's me, I will be able to perform without hesitation."
I am dressed in jeans shorts and a white, off shoulder top. With my brown, knee-length boots and big black sunglasses, even my brother could not recognize me. My wavy, brown hairs, which I usually tie up in a bun, are loose. I applied make up today. I lined my eyes with eye-liner and kohl, making my chocolate colored eyes, stand out. My caramel skin, looks luminious because of the oil. All in all, no one would say that I am Lily.
He smiled at me and started walking.
"Come," he said. I followed him to where Mr. Manhattan and Rosaline were.
I was shocked when Mr. Manhattan snorted and said, "Is that how you should dress when you are a care taker? I thought you were more sensible than all those girls out there who love showing skin."
"I am sorry." I didn't know why I was saying sorry but I just did. And he had a point, if I dressed like this, I had no right to stop Crystal and Rosaline from wearing dresses that were too short or, you know, well, slutty.
"Chill, bro, it's not like she is wearing nothing. Look, even her top is not that tight, nor her shorts too short."
I thanked Rosaline in my mind. Mr. Manhattan just huffed, and started walking. We followed him and then, we reached the assembly hall. The whole place was turned into a banquet hall. Everything was lavender or golden. Some black and white wasn't uncommon. The place was breathtaking. There was food and all. In short, it was one hell of a charity event.
The only difference was that instead of gentlemen and ladies, kids were here. That made the place hyper.
"Where is the stage?"
"There," Mr. Manhattan says.
"When am I supposed to start? Is there a band or something? Will I be the only one singing?"
"As soon as you can. Yes, there is a band, you can spot them on stage. Yes."
I nod. "I should go, I have to tell them the songs I will be singing, right."
James nod and I walk up to the stage.
I feel myself sweating, the tingly feeling in my heart, nervousness. I can taste it in my mouth, I can sense it in the way I walk, I can feel it in my mind, clouding all my thoughts. What if they didn't like my songs? What if I fall in front of all these people? So many questions revolve around my head, that I feel faint. It takes all my will power to not turn away and run away. I told James that this is not right, I am so scared right now.
