"Shit, shit, shit! I'm late!" I hopped out of bed, quickly grabbing the laptop off of the nightstand. I opened the laptop and powered it on, clearly rushing. "Hurry up!" I exclaimed, becoming impatient as the screen loaded. Once the screen loaded, I realized that I was already logged in. I was confused until I felt the back of the laptop, feeling something that felt like paper. I pulled it off and it said, "You're welcome, little bro!" I smiled a bit and just stared at the laptop. My name is Jeremy Karuto Adams and I am homeschooled.
Being homeschooled is pretty fun. You may have to wake up early like it's real school, but at least you get to stay in bed instead of getting up and getting redressed and blah blah blah. Besides, the only problem with being homeschooled is getting interrupted by siblings–if you have any, that is.
In the middle of taking a math quiz, I heard a knock on my bedroom door. Ah, must be mom since Jared is never up at this hour. "Come in!" I called out. I heard the door creak as it opened, looking to see who it was. Are you kidding me? "Hey, big bro. I had another nightmare...can I sleep in your room tonight?" It was my younger brother Jared. He's five years young but still very annoying. "Yeah, sure," I mumbled. Jared nodded and closed the door, making his way to my bed. As he lied down, I continued working.
An hour had past and Jared was already asleep. It usually takes a whole 3 hours for him to fall right back to sleep after a nightmare. "Karu, breakfast is ready!" My mother called out. "Coming!" I called out quietly, not wanting to wake up Jared. I took a shirt out of my drawer and put it on as I quietly walked out my bedroom and down the stairs. The house was pretty big, but not too big–which is good because Jared gets lost in big houses easily.
"Morning, mom," I said, stretching. "Good morning, Karu. How did you sleep?" She asked, smiling. "Pretty good," I answered. "Jared is in my room sleeping by the way. I was almost late for school too but I guess Ceniza logged me in while I was asleep." I sat down at the table as my mother set the plate of food down. "That's good. She went to take Lucy for a walk so she'll be back soon," she said, cleaning up a small mess she made. "I see." I stretched before picking up my fork to eat my food. "So, Karu, did you find a boyfriend yet?" My mother asked, giggling. "Mom!" I exclaimed, choking on my food. Yes, my mom knows that I'm gay. That was really the first piece of info she got when her and my dad adopted me. "I'm just teasing, sweetie," she said.
I was back upstairs in my room, still working on some tests and quizzes. Jared was already awake and on his way out my bedroom door. "Hey, Jared?" I said, looking over at him. He turned around, confused. "If you ever have a nightmare, go to mom's room, okay?" He nodded and walked out my room.
After a few hours, classes were over. I ended up studying for about an hour since I didn't feel like going anywhere. But, I ended up going somewhere anyway. I got in the shower, brushed my teeth, fixed my hair, tried on a change of clothes, and headed out. It was pretty chilly outside so I had put on one of my hoodies. "Where to go," I whispered to myself. I had a few places in mind, but I ended up choosing the Café. Hopefully today will be a good day.
