"I need some coins, Cassidy

"I need some coins, Cassidy." Elijah complained to his best friend of many years, Cassidy.

"Get a job then." Cassidy stated in a duh tone. They sat in Elijah's dorm room, discussing the latest gossip and Elijah's financial troubles.

"I have one, and it still isn't enough to pay for my student loans. And if I don't pay those loans I can't graduate." He threw a basketball up and down repeatedly, hating the predicament he was in.

"How much do you owe?" Cassidy sat up from her spot on Elijah's bed, scrolling through social media as she listened to her best friend vent about his problems.

"15,000." Elijah answered with great disdain. He wished he had the money, but sadly, not everyone had everything made out for them.

"It's not that much." Cassidy tried to stop her best friend from sulking.

"It is when you don't have it." Elijah retorted smartly.

"Geez, lighten up, Eli." Cassidy threw her hands up in defense at Elijah's snappy attitude. "I was saying it wasn't much compared to most of the other people on campus. Some of these people owe 250,000 in student loans."

"Oh, sorry Cas." He rubbed the back of his neck as he put the basketball back on the floor.

"Let's go out for some drinks." Cassidy nudged Elijah's shoulder. "Maybe this could get your mind off of your problems."

"Bitch, what part of broke did you not get? I don't have money to go spending at clubs and bars." Elijah's face scrunched up in disapproval at Cassidy.

For once, could she not think about partying and drinking? Elijah thought.

Elijah and Cassidy were polar opposites of each other. Cassidy preferred to drink and party her problems away, while Elijah preferred to dwell on his problems and think himself to death.

"Could you at least think for once instead of turning to a bottle?" He rolled his eyes at Cassidy's repetitive urge to drink.

"Eli, come on. Just this once." Cassidy pleaded, placing a pout on her face, hoping to sucker Elijah in.

"Cas, no. I have to figure this out."

"Please, Eli. Just this one time and I won't ask anymore." Cassidy clasped her hands together in a begging manner.

Elijah felt himself caving in to the pressure.

"Just this once?" He asked reassuringly. Cassidy nodded her head with eagerness at Elijah's sudden change of mind.

"Yes, I promise."

He let out a long, drawn out sigh. "I guess one drink won't kill me."

*

Elijah and Cassidy entered the overly packed club. They had gone to Elijah immediately felt uncomforable, being that this wasn't his type of setting. Cassidy grabbed his hand and pulled him along, noticing his reluctance. They eventually bypassed all the sweaty and disoriented people, stopping right at the bar.

"What will you two have?" The bartender questioned, his eyes glued to Cassidy.

It was no shocker to Elijah as he watched the bartender's eyes roam all over Cassidy's body. He knew his best friend was beautiful, and that she caught the attention of many when she was around. Elijah was a beauty himself, getting stares here and there. But unlike Cassidy, who was very promiscuous, Elijah never gave in to the attention he gained.

"Give me two of your strongest drinks." Cassidy emitted flirtatiously, twirling one of her curls between her fingers.

"I didn't want anything strong, Cas." Elijah nudged her shoulder.

"Oh, they're for me, silly."

Elijah pursed his lips at Cassidy. With a slight eye roll, he turned his attention to the bartender.

"Just give me a martini." Elijah wasn't really a heavy drinker, so he stuck with something light.

When the bartender handed him his drink, he sipped it slowly, savoring the tangy flavor.

"Cas wha-" Elijah turned around only to see that his best friend was gone, leaving two empty glasses. He shook his head at Cassidy's tendency to just leave and not let him know.

"Can I buy you a drink?" Elijah heard, but he thought it wasn't directed at him so he continued to look over the crowd for Cassidy. This time, it was a tap on his shoulder. Elijah turned around to face the handsome stranger.

"Can I buy you a drink?" The stranger repeated, putting on his best seductive voice.

"I have one already, but thanks for the offer." Elijah held up his still full glass of martini. He smiled at the stranger before turning back around to look for Cassidy.

"What's your name?" The stranger asked, hoping to get Elijah's attention back on him.

"Depends on who wants to know. Are you one of those crazy guys who will slip a ruphie in my drink and get me disoriented out of my mind so you can kidnap me?" Elijah joked, but he had a hint of seriousness in his voice.

The stranger chuckled at Elijah's assumption.

"Wow.. I'm guessing you watch alot of Lifetime?"

Elijah gasped with fake shock. "How'd you know?"

The stranger only laughed again at Elijah's antics and playfulness.

"So," He cleared his throat. "Can I get you're name?"

"Elijah, yours?" He sipped his martini.

"Jared."

"Nice to meet you." Elijah reached out to shake Jared's hand, only for Jared to bring his hand to his lips, kissing it.

"Pleasure meeting you as well, handsome." Jared gave Elijah the most charming smile he could muster up.

Elijah didn't cave in to his dashingly good looks that easily. He wanted to see just how much effort this man would put into getting what he wanted.

Little did Elijah know, he was getting more than he bargained for.
