"You could be nicer to big brother." Oh dear God! Why the hell did she of all people have to be here right now!?
"And you could leave me alone," hissed Alaska as he turned a page in White Fang. It was one of his favorite books and was rather surprised to find a copy in Russia's library, but that was beside the point. "But it seems neither of us are going to get what we want huh?"
Belarus glared at him, but remained silent for a moment. She looked at the teenager as he was sitting in the exact same spot in the library he used sit in when he was younger. It was the couch right next to a window that went from the ceiling to the floor. She could remember many nights seeing little Russian America reading by the moonlight so he wouldn't get caught. Belarus shook her head and got her mind back in focus. This was no longer the tiny and afraid Russian America.
"Good things did come out of being apart of big brother and you know it." Belarus bluntly stated and Alaska huffed in annoyance at her. Still, he didn't take his eyes from his book and she finally had enough. She snatched the book out of his grasp and looked him straight in the eyes.
"I'm talking to you." He looked her straight in the eyes. The furious look that flashed though his bluish purple eyes reminded Belarus of her her big brother far to much. It both annoyed her and made her oddly want to coo at the state.
"And does it look like I care!?" Alaska hissed as he stood up. He was only a few inches taller than her, but it still was enough to intimate. Especially with the angry look on his face.
"I may not stand any fucking chance against Mother Russia," Alaska hissed as he balled up his fists,"but I am perfectly capable of killing you."
In Belarus's shocked state, Alaska took back his book and sat right back down in his original spot. The female country blinked as she composed herself and reached for her knives. As she was about to throw them at the state, a large hand snatched her wrist.
"Belarus," Russia stated sternly causing both his sister's and Alaska's eyes to snapped to him,"why are you here so early in the morning?"
"I heard a rumor that America was going to try and steal Alaska back so I thought I would come and protect you, big brother." As the siblings talked, Alaska looked out the window as the sun rose. He had been up all night; unable sleep after what Russia had told him the night before.
"What is that?" Russia look to the right of him and saw a small boy. He was covered in thick furs and all you could see was his little face. What shocked the russian however was that the boy's face was an almost exact copy of his own. The only difference was his eyes were brown and his hair was black. The little boy gave him a sweet smile as he pointed to the sunflower in Russia's hand.
"It's a sunflower and what's your name?" Russia asked as held the flower out to the boy. The little boy looked at the flower in complete awe before answering the huge country.
"Some of my native people call me aláxsxaq but your people seem to call me Russian America. Are you the country these people come from? I didn't know white people could come from the west?" Russian America's Russian wasn't perfect, but Russia could completely understand what he asked.
"Who told you they couldn't?" Russia asked with a small laugh as Russian America sat next him.
"Aapa Inuit said they come from the east and the one with green eyes is extra scary and I should stay far away from him. But you don't have green eyes! Their purple! I've never met anyone with purple eyes before!" Russia wanted this kid come live with him. Now! He was just to adorable and cute.
"They are pretty rare even among my people and yes I'm the country these men come from. How would you like to be my colony?" Russia asked flat out and Russian America looked at him confused.
"What's that mean?"
"Alaska?" Russia waved a hand in front of the state's face. Belarus had left the room and Russia sat beside him on the couch. Alaska blinked as he tried to banish their first meeting from his mind. Why had he thought of that right then. "Have you been up all night?"
Alaska nodded as he noticed the Russian was all dressed for the day. He almost forgot that Russia was an early bird; Alaska was to, but he had groan used to America not waking for a few hours after him. Russia just seemed to stare at Alaska's tired and sad expression before sighing.
"Why must you love him so much?" Russia asked out of the blue making Alaska look at him confused. "It would be easier on all three of us if you didn't love Amerika so much."
"He's been taking rather good care of me a bit over a century and a half. How could I have not grown attached?" Alaska stated quietly far to tired to argue with Russia. The large nation put an arm around the state's shoulders and pulled him closer. Alaska's head now rested in Russia's shoulder; Alaska chuckled as the same familiar sent entered his nose.
"You never change." Alaska muttered almost silently.
"Oh? Do I still smell like fresh snow and vodka?" Alaska froze.
"Mr. Russia!" Russian America yelled as Russia came off a boat. He had been away for over a month and Russian America had missed the purple eyed man who he traded furrs with.
Russia laughed as he bent down so the little colony to be could put his arms around Russia's neck. They both laughed as Russia stood back up and Russian America continued to hug him tight.
"I missed you." Russian America stated as he hid his face in Russia's warm fur coat. Russia rubbed the little boy's back as he stared to walk to the cabin he usually used when he came to see Russian America.
"I missed you too." Russia answered as his feet crushed through the snow.
"You always smell so nice." Russia could only laugh and hugged the boy tighter. He almost always said such nice things to Russia; he could only hope this wouldn't change when he takes him to Moscow.
"What do I smell like?" Russia asked absentmindedly.
"Like...." Russian America seemed lost in thought for a moment before hiding his face in Russia's scarf.
"You aren't getting shy now?" Russia said with another laugh as they entered the cabin. He set Russian America down as he got a fire going.
"Nyet! I was just thinking!" Russian America said with a light blush,"you smell like fresh snow and vodka." Once Russia had put another log in the fire, he turned to the little boy again.
"And you like that smell?" Russia asked as he sat next Russian America. Russian America nodded and climbed into Russia's lap.
"I love you." Russian America whispered as he cuddled into Russia's chest. Russia was speechless and just hugged Russian America tight.
"You actually remember that?" Alaska whispered as his eyes began to close. He desperately tried to keep them open, but his body was actually relaxed and he was tired.
"Da," Russia whispered,"I remember many of the happier moments we had together. It's nice to know you remember them too." He slid a hand through Alaska's black hair.
"You almost make it hard to hate you." Alaska mumbled and Russia raised an eyebrow. He kissed the top of Alaska's head and just remained there for a moment.
"I wish you didn't hate me. I would like you to be happy with me. I wish you would love me again." Alaska almost felt pity. Alaska almost wanted to let his guard down and say that he loved him. He loved him so much that we would be willing to stay.
He couldn't though. And he wouldn't. America needed him. Besides, old wounds that are inflicted by loved ones always hurt far longer than intended.
