PAST
The smell of fresh pancakes has invaded my nostrils once I stepped out of my room. I tie my hair to a ponytail and sit on the chair. My mom puts down the plate of the famous Williams specialty pancakes. "Here's breakfast dear, don't eat too long or you'll be late for school." She said as she removed her apron and hung it on the hook that's right beside the fridge. "I know mom." I chuckled and sliced the pancake then stuffed it in my mouth.
"Where's Uncle Jonah?" I suddenly asked. My uncle lives with us, he's somehow like my dad and to be honest I don't know why he hasn't made a move on my mom, it's not like I'd mind or anything. As for my dad, he died. He died saving my mom and I. I was only a toddler that time and my mom never told me who killed him or how he died, I don't know why, maybe she's trying to protect me. My mom's family is very rich, but they choose to stay simple, well they tried. As for my mom and I, we decided to stay here for the rest my high school years, we're rich, sure that's a given, but we don't brag nor show off in public.
"Oh you know him, always early for work." My mom chuckled. "I will be getting ready for work, oh and here's your allowance." She puts down fifty dollars on the table and went upstairs while I eat in silence. It took me 5 more minutes to finish the rest of my breakfast before getting my allowance and putting it in my wallet. I get my car keys and my bag then headed out of the house. I felt my phone buzz as I placed it on the cup holder of the car.
Brae don't forget to pick me up. -M
I texted her back saying I'm on my way before starting the car. I started the engine and went to Maddison's house, which was just 10 minutes away, but it was enough to finish at least two songs. I stopped the car in front of her house and unlocked the car door for her to enter.
"Morning," I grinned. I'm a morning person if you haven't noticed. Don't you just like the sounds of birds chirping and the bright skies? Okay maybe not. "Just drive." She grunted before I chuckled at her. I started the car and drove off to school which is only 15-20 minutes away but I don't want to walk home after school since I'll be too tired by then.
Maddison is my best friend, my partner in crime, and the jelly to my peanut butter. We're not popular, if ever you're wondering. My whole group of friends is actually composed of different kinds of personalities. We're all really close, but Maddi was my first friend here when I moved into this town, which was only last year. She introduced me to the group and now the rest is pretty much history. I'm just glad that I found myself with those girls. I'm glad that I belonged.
We reached the school and I parked my Jeep on the usual spot. "Another day in hell. I don't even have History today." She sighed after I turned off the engine and took out the keys. I put it in the first pocket of my bag. I put one strap of the bag on my shoulder and got my phone before getting out of the car. Maddi was about to close her door as was I, and we both headed to our lockers which were somehow beside each other but there's one locker that's in between ours.
"What's your first class?" I asked Maddi as I put my bag in the locker after getting my notebook and pen.
"My first class is Bio, oh and you have free period with me before lunch. Which means we get an hour and forty minutes of lunch." She smirked before closing her locker. Maddi and I went on opposite directions since I had Baking, which was on the 2nd floor.
As I was just about to get my hand on the doorknob, my arm got yanked and the next thing I saw was the abandoned classroom. To be honest, I don't know why they haven't rebuilt it; well maybe the fact that 35 students died in here is why. I remained calm and collected, and searched for a figure. "I need you to do something for me." The voice said.
"I don't even know who you are!" I shouted and heard an echo in the room. The lights opened, I didn't even know it still worked. You know since its been abandoned, unless they changed it which seems useless. I looked to see who it was, and was surprised to find out. "Jaxton Pierce?"
"Ms. Williams, just the girl I needed to see. I'm gonna need you to keep a secret, it's either you're in or we need to find someone else for the job." I'm confused but at the same time I wanna know what he means by that, I wanna be involved.
"We?" I asked and raised my eyebrow.
"I can't tell you anything until you swear, you won't tell anyone. Not your family or friends." He said sternly. I really wanna know, my curiosity is bursting inside of me.
I sighed before I answered. "Fine, I'm curious, but if this some Mafia thing, I don't want to be part of it." I put both my hands up and my eyes widened.
"Relax." He said and walked towards me. "I'm not making you join some Mafia, but I'm making you join an agency." My eyebrows raised as he mentioned agency.
"This isn't some joke is it?" I was just making sure because you never know if there were hidden cameras in this room.
"No it's not and hopefully you won't be treating this as a joke either." He said with a straight face as he takes of his hood. He sighs before continuing. "If you're really interested in joining, meet me tomorrow at the parking lot, after school." He closes the lights and exits the room. At least he's giving me until tomorrow. I exit the room after he does and opens the door to Mrs. Wells' class.
"Ms. Williams, you're late." She didn't have the strict tone in her voice; it was more of the worried one. I think of a good lie to tell her. My hand went to my stomach. "Sorry Mrs. Wells, I just have a stomach flu." My lie was very believable, lying is bad but somehow I'm very good at it.
"Oh it's okay, you're excused. Just get an apron and go to the kitchen available." She gestures to the table where there was a girl with long wavy chestnut brown hair. She goes by the name Penny Bakerfield.
I got my apron and made my way to Penny. "Hey Braelynn!" I cringe at the sound of my full name. "Here's the ingredients and the instructions, I'm just in the first part." She giggles. "You're good in baking right?" She asked and I nodded. My mom taught me how to bake & cook before she taught me how to walk. I almost said that but it's just too much.
"Yeah this is what you have to do-" I was cut by glass shattering windows. Every girl in the room screamed, my eyes widened in horror. "Everybody stay down!" The guy with the black mask shouted. Everyone obeyed everyone was hopeless. I took a glance at Penny and she was starting to cry.
"Penny, go hide there." I pointed to an empty cupboard that can fit a person. Penny obeyed and quietly crawled to hide. The men with the mask locked the doors, once that was done; one of them came walking towards me. "Don't hurt her!" I heard the cry of Mrs. Wells.
The three men didn't listen to Mrs. Wells, as they continued walking towards me. "Braelynn Williams, you're coming with us." The one in the middle spoke. I glanced at the rest of the class, they were all hiding behind things but they looked at me with horrified eyes. "No please, just leave me alone!" I tried crawl away but I look down on my legs and some of the glass shards were on my leg, I gasped in horror.
Before I could do anything, I was being carried by one of the men, while the two were going for the window. I could hardly see anything but I hear a propeller of a helicopter. I was being carried on the guy's shoulder while he climbs the ladder. One guy was ahead of us and another guy at the back of us. I feel my eyes closing, probably because of the blood I was losing.
