"Melania!" Why won't she listen to me today? I should not have agreed to keeping the neighbours' daughter; why did I brought this upon myself...
I rushed around Winterfell trying to find the 8 years old girl. I finally stopped a bit outside the castle's walls as I spotted a mass of black hair behind an enormous pile of hay that was yet to be covered in snow. Here you are, quit playing, you're going back to your mother... I approached her as silently as I could but had not noticed the stick of wood at my feet that cracked when I stepped on it. Now alert of my presence, Melania started running. She ran so fast that she did not see the man she had just bumped into. I rushed to their side.
"Oh gods! My apologies-" What is this outfit... Oh it's a Lord! "-my Lord." I added, out of breath from all the running and the embarrassment that the neighbour's daughter had brought me. I turned to her, a grave look on my face, "Apologize." The little girl looked at me and then at the Lord.
"I'm sorry my Lord." she droped her head in guilt, gazing at her feet.
"Now, go back to your mother." She nodded and dashed to her house. I looked back at the man that standed in front of me; a beautiful cobalt blue adorning his eyes, his hair fell nicely around his face, the cloak that was draped around his shoulder gave him a look of solemnity. All in all he did look handsome. I noticed a sly smirk forming on his lips, I would be lying if I said I had not blushed at this. I hid my fluttered-self behind a wall of excuses, "I'm really sorry My Lord. I promise, this will never happen again." I looked down at my own feet, avoiding eye-contact to keep myself from stuttering. A soft hand cupped my cheek and slowly pushed my head back up, allowing me to look in his eyes once more.
"No harm was done... my Lady." This last part came out a bit more as a question and I laughed quietly, shaking my head, making him drop his hand which's warmth I already missed.
"I am no Lady, my Lord. I am (Y/N), the daughter of (Y/F/N) and (Y/M/N) (Y/L/N), both bakers for the Stark family which we are very grateful to serve." I smiled at this, being the bakers for such important persons was fun because we got to make a lot of different pastries, but it was also very difficult due to being relied on when other Lords and Ladies from all sides of Westeros came to Winterfell.
"Oh, so that's where all this good bread comes from... I see." A big grin made its way to my lips from the compliment; his eyes lingered on them for a little while but then, the bells ringed. Oh no! I forgot about the bread I put in the oven before Melania decided to play hide and seek! It is going to be all burnt!
"I- Uh- Excuse me my Lord, I must go!" I stuttered out rushing past him but he got a hold of my arm before I was out of reach, making me turn around.
"Theon. My name is Theon." He smiled at me, and I did the same to him. He let go of me and I couldn't help but wonder about the man that I had just met while dashing back to the bakery. Oh, I do hope it's not burnt!
*~Time Skip~*
"We need more eggs (Y/N) dear, would you be kind enough to go get some?" Mother called from the back of the bakery.
"Sure thing mom!" I ran outside, feeling the cold breeze of winter hitting my skin like a thousand needles trying to pierce it. This week had been crazy! Since my father had received a letter from Lord Eddard Stark telling us that the King and all his family was coming to Winterfell, we had been working all day everyday! And now that they were here it was even worse! Thankfully we got help from a baker that lived near Winterfell and even Melania lend a hand, helping my mother at the back of the shop.
