Edella was in the training hall, or was before she ran out. Her mentor yells filled the hall even after the door was shut. She started to run through the maze of the underground city. She finally made it the the opening of the cave. The cool air hit her face. It was autumn now, the leaves were changing color and the falling on the ground. She looked around and started to run northwest towards the thing that always proved a safe haven for her.
Past the waterfall she learned to swim at and over a hill was a worn treehouse. It was cleared out years ago but always provide shelter and a meeting place. She climbed up the tree and crawled in the little opening.
"Your late" a deep voice came. She smiled and crawled over to the sound.
"I missed you" she said. Ryan wrapped her in his arms and lightly brushed his lips against hers. They had been friends since the first day of training, when she knocked out his tooth by accident and been dating since she was thirteen. Now she was eighteen and he was nineteen. He was the perfect definition of a soldier. She brushed the dirty blonde hair out of his blue eyes. They cuddled there for a few hours listening to the frogs and crickets. Nothing in the world could ruin this moment and she fell asleep in his arms.
She woke up the next day in her bed. Looking over, she found Ryan next to her, then looked around her apartment. Her home ever since she was able to fend for herself, when Her parents died in accident while mining into the cave. Edella looked at herself finally, Realizing was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday. Walking into the bathroom and started to run a shower. The smell of soap and heat filled the room fogging up her mirror. She stood under the faucet and lost track of time. The water running over her body soothing her skin. Finally realizing where she was, she got out and put on fresh clothes and walked in the other room. The rest of her apartment smelled like meat.
"You know how to cook I see" she went over to the kitchen and took a rosemary to start cutting up.
"Better than you ever was" he said, smiling and nudging her.
"Yeah right"
They sat down and started to eat when the clock rang; She was late to practice. Jumping up and running out the door he grabbed her shoulder, spinning her around.
"I love you" kissing her briefly
"Two" she said before leaving. The training hall was empty, the equipment had been put up and a long table sat in the middle of the room. Suddenly, a stern female voice echoed in the room for her to take a seat. As she walk closer she could see the outline of 3 figures. Finally sitting down the light came on more to see the president of the rouge Brielle, edellas mentor Clark, and finally a man she didn't recognized but his uniform told her he was the general.
President Brielle rose to her feet and speaked, "As of today you are no longer a student. You are now part of the 8th squadron. Your first mission will be in 3 weeks. That is the only information you will receive. Dismissed"
She knew she was to leave at once but hesitated. Finally the general stood up and walked around the table. He came within a few inches of her face
"Dismissed!" Yelling in her face.
She turned at once, but before the door shut behind her Clark stopped her and turned to the president.
"Are you insane!! She's still in training she cant do thi-" the president held her and up and a loud bang filled the room. Clark fell to the ground dead. She wanted to rush to Clark to help him but she knew better or she would be just like him. Edella rushed out of the room and climbed the stairs to the main floor of the cave. She dared not look back. Walking through the streets and alleys she crossed paths with her friend tabitha. She was only a few years older than edella and the one who would fight off the other girls when they were picking on edella,But she kept walking. She walked the trail and out of the cave until she was walking through the woods not knowing where she was going but walking. She needed to know what just happened. "What was so wrong with that, people outburst all the time?" She kept walking until she found the treehouse, and climbed inside. She wouldn't cry; she never really considered Clark a friend, but to watch him die was shocking. She never seen anyone die before, always she had been kept away from the perimeter of the rouges territory and all she had ever killed was a few animals.
The sudden creaking of the tree limbs pulled her out of her thoughts. Ryan appeared in the door and waited for permission to come in farther.
"Tabitha told me she saw you and you didn't look so good. I'd knew you'd be here."
She scooted over to give him room to fit. She landed in his chest and told him what had happened . He began to smile, "Your in my squad now."
"What do you mean?" she looked up at him.
"I mean that's the squadron I'm in, we're the infiltration group. It will be okay though, I'll train you and teach you everything. I've got 3 weeks."
