CHAPTER ONE
I was fourteen- fourteen when I lost my virtue to a man too intoxicated to stand up straight. His stench, it still lingered right under my nose for the next several years. It was something I had never told anyone but one person, and after that night, I had lost trust in everyone around me. Most people would say I subjected myself to rape, but I did not. It was all his fault, that good for nothing asshole: Luke Robert Hemmings.
Ever since we first met at the age of fourteen on the first day of Adolair Academy- boarding school- there was a spark of detestment always ignited between us. I was a decent student; I worked hard to keep my GPA always above a 3.5 and called home every Tuesday. I didn't sneak out like most people did. I stayed away from sexual activity (not that I was offered to any) and never touched a cigarette nor a bottle of vodka.
Luke, it wasn't that he was a bad student; he was utterly despicable, everything about him. He had several girls crushing on him, but I never understood why. He always hurled spiteful comments and what were his ideas of a 'joke' every single day without fail for the first year of boarding school.
I didn't have a major issue with him until my friends- Calum and Katie- and I snuck out for an end of the year party at a local club lounge. I was told that many freshman and sophomores went there; I was hesitant at first, but we ended up going anyway. And there, I saw Luke Hemmings.
He offered me a cup of soda and walked away. I thought he was being suspicously nice, yet I accepted and swallowed it all. Little did I know, he had slipped a drug into my drink, causing me to be sedated and vulnerable to rape. And I was.
It took me all of two weeks to recover and confront Luke. But it was his laughter full of amusement that caused me to be ever so repulsed by him. I stood at his door with tears brimming to my eyes when he started laughing after I had told him what had happened all because of him.
I soon learned that drugging random people and selling drugs was something Luke did. He was only a freshman, yet he supposedly sold to upperclassmen and people at raves and clubs. But that was all in freshman year, because he didn't return to school for sophomore and junior year. I thought he had dropped out, so naturally, I was overjoyed.
But there he was, standing behind me as I turned around after my purchase of a strawberry smoothie. I was so shocked, allowing the plastic cup to slip out of my hand. It hit the ground and the cheap boarding school cup disassembled itself as the cold pink concoction seeped in through my toes.
There were so many elements mixed inside me in that moment- astonishment, terror, anxiousness. Easily said, I was dazed at the sight of Luke. It had been well over two years since I last saw him, and he had changed so much. Just a few years back, we were the same height- 5' 4". And in that time he was gone, he had grown into this giant.
His eyes were still the same serene blue they were when he was fourteen. Except he no longer looked like that freshman boy. Everything about him sparked masculinity. His lip was piercing with a black lip ring which matched the color of his entire outfit.
Despite his attractive appearances, he disgusted me. I didn't want to see him ever again. So I screamed. It was a shrill of horror that filled the small bakery on campus. It was still the last week of summer before the semester officially began so the place was nearly deserted. I didn't move and with my set of lungs I screamed.
"Lila!" Katie rushed over from the table with Calum trailing behind her. "Lila, what's wrong with you?"
And in that moment, I was struck with dread and apprehension that I thought I pushed out of my system. It wasn't long before Ashton showed up in our little circle with a roll of paper towels in his hand. He worked at Char's, any upperclassmen could work at the Club or the bakery. "Are you okay?"
