“Okay, dad. I’m going to hang out with Cassandra and Savannah.”
I walked out the door and headed down the street. It was only about a ten minute walk to Cassandra’s house.
I knocked on the door and waited for Cassandra to open. Once she did, I stepped inside and followed her into her bedroom. Savannah saw me and greeted me with a hug before we all sat down on Cassandra’s bed.
“So! Are you guys excited?” Cassandra asked.
“Yes! I can’t wait for you to see it, Skyler,” Savannah said, looking towards me.
“Okay then. What are we waiting for? My dad doesn’t know where we’re going; he thinks I’m just hanging here with you guys so it’s okay. Let’s go!”
While Cassandra said bye to her mom, Savannah and I walked outside.
Cassandra joined us and we started to walk down the street.
“So, like, it’s really pretty inside but there’s a bunch of trash everywhere, kay?” Cassandra warned.
“Yeah, that’s fine. I don’t really care,” I replied.
When we turned the corner, I saw it.
It was a big house; two stories. Painted a cream color and had a light pink roof.
As you can probably guess, the house was abandoned – foreclosed more like it. Savannah had told me that there was a sign on the front window about the house being foreclosed because of money issues.
We ran up to the left side of it to the gate and Savannah pulled it open.
“Don’t let it slam!” She whispered loudly.
Cassandra and I hurried in after as Savannah stuck her hand into where the window had been and unlocked the door.
We all walked into the garage.
The garage door leading into the house was already open.
It felt very eerie walking into the house.
I noticed all the cabinets were open when Cassandra said,
“You know… it’s so weird. Every time I come here… it’s like something new has changed even though I haven’t touched anything. I doubt anyone else comes in here either. It’s really creepy. Like, these cabinets weren’t open last time..”
I shivered, having a weird feeling come over me.
To the left, there was the office. We walked in and looked at the desk. It had a few pictures of three children – a girl, an older boy, and a younger boy – all in their soccer uniforms.
Who would leave their children’s soccer pictures?
Savannah started to say, “It’s weird because I’ve never seen the older boy…”
Savannah had seen the family before their house was foreclosed. She had only seen the younger boy, sister, mother, and father but never the older boy.
“Do you guys think he’s dead?”
We just looked at her in response.
Once we were done looking at those, we walked into the living room. There was also a little desk there built into the wall. We walked over it and saw a picture of Justin Bieber – believing the girl must have liked him.
