One...two...three...
"Hey Skye!", Ed smiled while walking up to the counter. Ed was that boy you couldn't help but be smile around. He was always so carefree and happy with the world as if nothing ever goes wrong.
"Hey Ed. The regular?", I asked while pulling out my notebook.
"Yes please! 2 extra pumps of expresso though this time. I can barely keep my eyes open", Ed chuckled while flipping his curly hair and rubbed his big brown eyes.
"You got it", I smiled while mixing the mixtures to make his drink. My parents owned the hottest Cafe in town, i guess that's pretty rad...except for the part where you serve the hottest kids in school and well...if you get their orders wrong, you'll never hear the end of it. But luckily for me, I don't work the busy shifts...well not yet. I just get the usual customers like Mr.Pipen, the bus driver. Daisy, the crossing guard. Sherril, the old lady who casually takes strolls with her dog..in a carriage. And Ed, the happy boy.
"Here ya go", I smiled while handing Ed his coffee.
"Thanks Skye. This is a life-saver. Well see ya around", Ed smile while plopping his change in the tip jar and walked away with his care-free self.
"Skye! The phone is for you!", my mom called from the back room.
"I'm working the counter. Tell whoever it is to call back later"
"It's Paige, and she says it's important"
"Okay! Cover for me please"
I walked to the backroom and placed the phone to my ear.
"What's up? New magazie story or new hottie of the day?", I teased.
"No...this is serious Skye", Paige said anxiously.
"Woah is everything okay?"
"Is there anyway you could possibly come over"
"When?"
"Like..now"
"I can ask, but I don't know. I have a shift until 6pm"
"Please."
I could hear Paige's voice getting choked...she was going to bawl any second.
"Yeah..yeah I'll be right over. Don't worry"
"Thankyou"
I hung up the phone and ran to the counter.
"Mom, Paige needs me right now. Something's wrong, but she woudn't tell me over the phone. Can you please cover my shift?"
"If i cover yours today...you have to cover my Saturday"
"Deal"
I walked the few blocks leading to Paige's house. The door was unlocked and it seemed as if no one was home. "Paige?", I said while walking around the kitchen to the living room. I walked up the newly furnished staircase to to Paige's room. There she was...spread out on her bed..bawling her eyes out into her pillow. I've never seen Paige like this...ever, and I've been friends with her since we were in 5th grade and we're now Sophmores. "Paige what's wrong?", I asked while sitting down next to her. She rolled over so that I could now see her face...her eyes were bulgy from crying with masacra smearing under her eyes. Her eyelashes were clumped together and her eyes were bloodshot.
"M-My mom"
