I stood nervously outside the cottage door. The rain was pelting down and my hair was dripping.
"You okay, Dad?" I called over my shoulder. I clutched my suitcase handle and watched my father as he slammed the car boot and marched over to me.
I plastered on a smile as he pushed past me to open the door. I rushed in after him to get out of the rain and I dripped pathetically on the floor wooden floor. I quickly slammed the door behind me to stop the rain coming in, wincing at the loud noise. My dad turned to smile at me expectantly as I surveyed the small kitchen we had entered.
"I love it!" I laughed as I walked around the little room, imspecting all the cupboards and looking out of the small window.
I then progressed into the living room. Two comfy chairs sat in front of a fireplace and a bookshelf towered on one wall. The large window looking over the front yard had big pillows which invited me to spend ages sitting and reading, or daydreaming as I watched the rain pattering against the glass. Behind me I heard the familiar annoying beep of my dad's ringtone.
"Phoebe, I gotta take this. Do me a favour and stay out the way, yeah. Work stuff, Y'know."
I headed towards the stairs with a nod before realising that he was pointing at the front door.
"D-Dad, it's raining." I half-laughed, looking nervously from him to the door.
"Phoebe, just...!" He sighed annoyedly. I nodded and slid on my coat once more. Now would be as good a time as any to meet an old familiar face.
