Robert was easily one of the most complex and interesting people you had met since you had moved to Maple Bay, and although you found him intimidating at first, soon you had practically heard the click between you both. You were so similar, down to your similar styles of humor. While different from yours, you found Robert's sense of humor had the same effect; hiding suffering. A way of trying to cope with things by bringing your attention to your jokes, and everyone else's attention away from any exposed feelings. Last night had been a particularly bad night for you, and though you'd stayed in bed far past the time you'd normally wake up, prompting Amanda to come check on you, you couldn't manage to get any sleep. Searching for ways to distract yourself, your mind wandered to dadbook. Robert was always the perfect distraction. Opening up the chat, you shot him a message.
(Y/N): Yo, Robert, we need to hang immediately.
You began waiting for his response, before reconsidering and adding another message.
(Y/N): I know you love to wait until like 12 am to go out with me but seriously I need to hang right now. No bar hopping, no crime, just hanging together.
You rubbed your hands lightly together, biting your lip. You could only hope Robert would respond well. He didn't seem like the type to enjoy basking in another person's presence. A ding forced your attention back to the computer.
     Robert: sure thing. You ok?
(Y/N): As okay as a deer in hunting season.
(Y/N): That is to say, I'm not okay.
     (Y/N): And also possibly dying.
Robert: in the end, aren't we all
Robert: get over here before I decide I'd rather drag you out to a bar tonight
Robert: can't say this is my thing
(Y/N): Didn't think so but hey, it's happening anyway. See you soon.
Logging off, you quickly made your way to Robert's place, cursing yourself as you made your way to the door. Was trying to have a casual, emotional hangout with Robert of all people really the best idea? Well, too late to go back now, you figured, and knocked on the door. A slightly disheveled Robert opened it, left hand awkwardly rubbing his pants. Nervous, you figured. You nodded at him thankfully, practically storming into the room and plopping down on his couch.
"Look, okay. You're not really a feelings guy. I get and respect that. But I feel like shit and I've barely slept in the last few days and honestly I'm hanging on by a thread here." Your head was in your hands now, and Robert had moved to sit next to you, awkwardly rubbing your back with his hand.
"Welcome to the club, kid." He snorted, vaguely gesturing to the dark bags underneath his eyes.
"Robert I'm literally going to die." You groaned.
"I'll spread your ashes on your bed so you can finally get some sleep."
"You're a true friend." Sighing, you closed your eyes for a moment, feeling yourself start to drift just from that one second resting your eyes. "You know what... We seriously need to relax." You grabbed Robert's hand, leading him to his bedroom. You saw fear flash across his face for a moment before he regained his composure.
"I knew it. You've been in it for my dick all along." You smacked his arm gently.
"Oh shut it. We're sleeping. We both look like shit and we both feel like shit, so even if we can't fix it, we might as well feel like shit together while we try." Robert looked slightly relieved, but at the same time, extremely taken aback.
"Well. It, uh. Doesn't hurt to try, I guess." You climbed into bed next to him, snuggling yourself as far into the blankets as you could. "You know, I lied. This is where I come to masturbate." A choked noise escaped your mouth, followed by a groan.
"God dammit, now I'm going to dream of your dick. Thanks Robert." Robert chuckled, but didn't respond. Feeling brave, you snuggled closer to Robert, lying your head next to his. You felt him tense up for a moment, followed by his arm tentatively snaking around you. You felt yourself smile, leaning into the touch. For once, you had a feeling finding sleep would be no problem.
