Chapter One

Maddie's POV

-

Hi, I'm Maddie Ziegler. I dance at ALDC and I have type one diabetes. I am 11 years old and I have a 8 year old sister named Mackenzie who also dances. Our mother is dead, and our father gave us up for adoption. We live with out dance teacher and we dance 24/7. Our mother (dance teacher) loves us and has trained us to the best of her ability. We are her favorite and best dancers on her elite team. Type one diabetes doesn't mean your fat. It just means my pancreas doesn't produce insulin. I dance just as well, maybe better, than all of my teammates. Tonight is the first night back to dance since I started cutting. Abby, my mom, didn't want we going to her studio with the cuts, so Kenzie and the other girls weren't scared or do the same. The moms and Abby wonder why I cut. I know exactly why.

The kids at the park I go to kids know about my diabetes. They are the ones that know about my diabetes. They are the ones that don't let me play or add me in because of my diabetes. They are the ones that caused me to cut. I'm homeschooled which is good, but my only place to be myself is at ALDC. Dance is my only escape.
