The Beginning of a New Relationship

A few months later I had finally built up the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend. She actually said yes. We went to the beach for a little while and watched the sun go down on the horizon.

Me: "Carly...I have to go on deployment soon." I sigh
Carly: "Really? And we just started dating" I see her eyes fill up with tears
Me: "I'm really sorry baby. But it's not my decision." I open my arms for a hug as she falls into them
Carly: "Just promise me one thing..."
Me: "What's that?"
Carly: "Promise me you'll come back safe and sound?" She choked on a few words as she held back the tears
Me: "I promise angel..." I pull her close to me and kiss her forehead. "Let's go home."

So we leave the beach and head back to my place. I go change and give her one of my shirts to get comfy. She changes and cuddles into me on the couch. I pulled the blanket over us since it's freezing as usual.

Me: "Carly..."
Carly: "Yes?" She looks up at me.
Me: "I love you" I tell her as I lean in for a kiss.
Carly: "I love you too Jacob" she smiles and kisses back

She fell asleep in my arms which meant for me to carry her to bed. Didn't bother me much though.  I laid her down and covered her up with the blanket, then I crawled into bed and held her.

I woke up the next morning to pack my seabags for deployment next Wednesday. It hurt me to pack but I had to. Before she woke up I had hid my bags so she wouldn't cry again. Once I finished doing that I sat at the edge of the bed. That's when Carly woke up. She crawled up next to me and kissed my cheek.

Me: "Morning beautiful" I smile
Carly: "Morning" she says as she yawns and rubs her eyes
Me: "How'd you sleep? Hopefully you slept well."
Carly: "I did actually. Thanks to you" she sits up
Me: "Good, I'm glad you did."
Carly: "You want breakfast?"
Me: "Sure" I say as a smile breaks out on my face

When she asked that, it brought me back to the first night she stayed. The night we met. Which is the whole reason I broke out in a huge smile.

So she went to the kitchen to cook breakfast for us. I laid back down for a few more minutes before she walked in saying that breakfast was ready. I got up and went to go eat.

Carly: "Where are you going for your deployment?"
Me: "Germany, Spain, and France."
Carly: "Aww I wanna go now" she giggles
Me: "I'll book a flight to France after my deployment. I promise."
Carly: "Really?!" She gets up and runs into my arms kissing me "thank you!"
Me: "No problem" I say kissing back

Wednesday morning, the morning I'm supposed to leave for deployment. I got up out of bed and put my bags in the truck with tears in my eyes. I picked up Carly to set her in the truck. I look at her, still passed out, I start the truck up and I make my way to the naval base.

Me: "Carly, wake up...we're here..."
Carly: "Do you have to..." she says rubbing her eyes
Me: "I'm sorry..." I get out and grab my bags as I help her out of the truck
Carly: "Remember our promise" she says choking on her words fighting back tears
Me: "Haven't forgotten" I put my bags down and open my arms for her

She falls into my arms crying. I couldn't stay much longer. They were getting ready for muster (which is attendance) and I had to go. I gave her one last passionate kiss before I left. All I remember from then was Carly balling her eyes out in the driver side.

Finally got on the ship and got to my bunker with my shipmates. Put all my stuff in my bunk and went out for muster.
