Sylvia' POV
"I'm booored" I moan into my hand causing my best friend Jessica to laugh. "Do you know that's the fourth time you've said that" She replies from the step ladder giving me a smirk, causing me to poke my tongue out at her "I'm just saying that since we're here and filing the books she could atleast let us read some" I mutter, putting another book on the shelf. "That's the only reason you went for this job isn't" Jess says turning around with a smirk on her face "you just wanted to be able to read books twenty four seven, didn't you?" she says throwing a pencil at me "not like you don't do it anyway" she laughs "Oh shut up" I tell her, placing the pencil on the table. Grabbing a stack of books off the table, laughing slightly I go to the next aisle looking for the Jane Eyre section.
"You know" Jess starts "we've been friends for ten years and I've never seen you go a day without reading" she looks at me quizzically "Well it is my passi-" I was stopped when the the bell above the shop door rings. Me and Jess look at each other confused and she rushes round the other side of the aisle, her platinum blonde hair swaying down her back. I'm so jealous. Jess is beautiful, really, she has this thick platinum blonde hair that flows to her waist which is always perfectly straight. Where as my hair is a dull brown that flows to just under my shoulder blades. Instead of my hair being perfectly flat, it's curly, like Clarissa Fairchild curly.
Jess's eyes are a baby blue and mine are sewage green. And to top it off I wear glasses. I know, classic Nerd, that's why Jess is the popular one.
"Syl? Syl? SYLVIA!" Jess shouts, I can hear the frustration in her voice. Sighing and placing the last two Jane Eyre books on the shelf, I walk around the aisle to where Jess's persistent nagging is coming from. As I round the corner I trip over the edge of the bookcase and go flying, causing me to land on my face and break my glasses.Archie POV
In a small crappy town with a small crappy book shop. Could this get any better. Atleast New York had a variety of shops. I open the door and stand by the front desk, where I'm greeted by a very preppy, very blonde girl. "Hi what can I do for you?" She asks twisting a piece of hair around her finger. Looking at what she's wearing, I know she doesn't belong in this shop. "Ummm yeah, I was coming in here to ask if you have any Jane Eyre, my sister is obsessed with her" she smiles and turns abit "Yeah, one sec we were just reshelving them" she takes a step forward "Syl?" She calls. I'm guessing this is a coworker since she looks like she does none of the work "Syl? SYLVIA!" She shouts to which after I hear a rustle and a brunette walk around the corner. Kinda short and kinda cute. She looks like the type of girl who would work here.
Then she fell, landing with a crack. Blondie runs over to help her, her high heels clacking the whole way. Crouching down I hear her murmuring to the brunette "Hey you okay? Damn they're broke? That's the third time this year and it's only April" helping the brunette up blondie turns and smiles, signaling me to wait a minute as she walks around the corner.
Walking back around with the brunette on her arm blondie pushes her down on a chair with a cloth and tells me she'll get me Jane Eyre's books now. The brunette was sat there being awful quiet for someone who just tripped, well she did trip infront of a stranger who she's being forced to sit with now. Go on. Say something nice Archie. "Uhh" I start, scratching the back of my head and making a small step forward "you okay? That was um quite the face plant" I say trying to lighten the mood. Hey, I said trying "You can say that again. Broke my frickin glasses. Again" she mumbles into the cloth at her lip while holding up a pair of smashed glasses with the other hand. "My dad is gonna kill me" she says, placing them into her lap.
As she takes away the cloth at her mouth I see her lip is split a lump starting to form. "Hey let me look at that" I say causing her to lol up ft the first time. She has beautiful eyes. A dark mossy green "I have medical practice" I say, attempting to reassure her as I take a step closer and crouch down to her height while in the chair. I gently graze my thumb over her cut, causing her to tense up and wince and the sudden contact.
"Alright I found the Jane Eyre books-" Blondie stops suddenly. Eyes widening at the scene before her. As I scramble my way into a standing position, brunette puts the cloth back to her mouth. "I'm Archie, by the way" I say "either one of you go to Riveracre high?" I ask "yeah both of us" blondie says, with a cautious tone. "I'm Sylvia" brunette- Sylvia says "and she's Jess. She'll scan your books for you" Sylvia says, standing up and feeling her way to the back of the store. Jess slowly walking towards me, slams four books down on the cashier. "That'll be £31.96" Giving her the money and receiving my change she practically ushers me out of the door, slamming it shut and turning over the OPEN sign so that it now said CLOSED. Walking to my truck and throwing in the books I shake my head at the girls I just met. Something tells me it's not the last that I'll see of them.A/N - Hi.
