"SPECIAL AGENT KYLE WRIGHT, CHABERT case, log thirty - four," the man's voice was low, laced with caffeine, and heavy exhaustion. "Today, March sixteenth, 10:34 am, Manhattan Republican was robbed - a recorded sum of five million U.S. dollars stolen from a high security vault in the said bank's underground keep."

The formal voice he used was gone, replaced by the frustrated whisper that was for his ears only. "I don't know how this happened. We got a tip three weeks ago that the Union Province would be robbed today, and I thought I'd finally catch her."  There was a long pause. The silence rang louder than the traffic outside. "9:52 am, the alarm went off in Union Province. Literally."  He let out a bitter laugh that died out not long after, " An alarm clock, later discovered to be purchased from Dave's Novelty, went off, somewhere inside the vault, setting off the alarm system."

...

"She's good. I'll give her that. Union Province was a middle class bank. She set the decoy, and went after the bigger fish. We interviewed Manhattan Republican's staff. The secretary said a new girl was coming in earlier that day." Another pause. "It wasn't her. We ran it through biometrics. Her name is Natalie Ward. And Anna Reeves. And Lola Thornwall. And seven other aliases.

"I was ordered off the bank robbery. It was handed to Organized Crime when it was confirmed that Chabert wasn't a suspect.

"I have this nagging feeling that Chabert is involved, somehow."

The door opens in the background. "Kyle, I got a lead on Chabert's whereabouts." A high - pitched voice rang. "Yeah, thanks, Oliver."

She playfully sighed. "Oliver? Hey, Wright, stop calling me by my last name, okay? You make me sound like a man. Call me Ella."

He laughed loosely. "Sure. Thanks, Ella."

"Now that's more like it. I'm heading back to my apartment. Want to come with?" she said it in a sly, suggestive tone. He winced. "I'll pass. I have to finish a lot of paperwork," he lied through his teeth.

Ella frowned. "Well, okay then."  The suggestive tone was on full blast when she added, "Maybe next time."

The door closed, and  it was silent.

"We have nothing to charge against Chabert. Even if we find out where she is, we just don't have any charges. All this case is made of is speculation. That's probably why they gave it to me. Bastards think I can't handle being in the Manhattan White Collar Division."

...

"I'll show them. I'll put Bonnie Chabert behind bars. That'll shut Greggory up. Just you wait."
