Chapter 5: The Blow That Changed Everything, (Part 1 of 3)

A/N: This chapter covers the start of a 3-part series in which assassinations of key LC members occur behind enemy lines with Midnight and reluctantly, Darcie. I would nearly get killed, but that would change everything and turn the tide of the war from one major event. Note some romance at the beginning. (Romances will start)

We were discussing strategies in the SoH Meeting Room, but it was clear one of us had enough of the conventional warfare we were using: It was me. I soon spoke up. "Commander, Josh, if I may interject for one moment?" I asked.

Both Josh and Heathcliff looked over at Mitch. "Sure, what is it?" Heathcliff said.

"To be frank with you guys, I've had enough of our conventional warfare. It's only led to stalemates and barely holding ground for any period of time when we do. We need to use unconventional tactics like guerrilla warfare, assassinations, operations behind enemy lines using our stealthiest players in a black operations unit. We need to end this and break their morale as fast as we can before ours does." I said, wowing everyone. "And mine over the past few months has gotten high." I added.

Heathcliff seemed to understand what Mitch was saying, but Josh had become worried. "Mitch, you don't expect me to put one of my guildmates in danger like that, do you?" Josh said to Mitch.

"Hear me out Josh." I said calmly.

"Mitch, I cannot be putting one of my strongest out there like that." Josh said, still worried.

"Mitch, I can easily agree with you, though I must ask that you are careful. Josh, we keep going the same route we are, we could end up on the wrong side of the blade." Heathcliff said.

"I know a lot about guerrilla warfare as I studied a bit on the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War back in the 1960s. They were traitors to their own country who used traps, ambushes and other various tactics behind enemy lines to break the morale of American troops. An assassination would be a real dent in morale." I said.

"Commander I understand, but I don't want to be putting one of my guildmates, and friends in that kind of danger!" Josh said.

"Josh, it has to be done. We don't do this, and we could all end up dead." Heathcliff said.

"He's right. We have no choice. Midnight, Inori, Asuna? Opinions?" I asked.

"Mitch, if this is happening, you aren't going alone." Midnight said.

"Mitch, as long as you are careful, and come back alive, I can agree with the Commander." Asuna said.

Inori looked at both Midnight and Mitch, before answering. "As long as you two come back alive, and not dead. I can allow it." She said calmly.

"I intended to form a team to go covert behind enemy lines. The stealthiest players we have. Me, Midnight, and reluctantly even though I still resent her, Darcie." I said. "I know how to execute these kind of attacks, so permission to take command for an assassination?" I requested from Midnight and the others.

Midnight and Inori nodded, then looked at Josh. "Mitch, I don't have to like it, but it's our only choice.." Josh sighed, "Permission granted."

"I won't let you down on this sir. I have a high ranking target in mind." I smirked. "And bringing a few in for interrogation." I said.

"Who is it you have in mind?" Heathcliff asked curiously.

"Red-Eyed XaXa, the LC second in command himself is my assassination target, and I'm gonna round the hackers, the killers of my friends and Maka's brother's murderer up for interrogation here." I said, stating the mission.
