Lesson1.1: Korean Vowels
Hangul has a total 21 vowel symbols. Among them are 11 basic vowel and 10  double-vowel symbols.

*THE 11 BASIC VOWEL SYMBOLS
1.ㅏ-a
Name 아 read as "a"
Ex: as in FATHER.

Take note: when you see this symbol
"" it is a silent symbol, it has no sound/silent. Iaadd mo itong symbol pag ang first letter ng sentence o ng word na bubuoin mo ay mag iistart sa vowel. Always yun kumbaga rule na sa kanila.

2.ㅔ-e
Name 에 read as "e" sounds
Ex: as in MET.

3 ㅗ -o
Name 오 read as "o"
Ex: as in HOME (Push your lips out!)

4.ㅓ- eo
Name 어 read as "eo"
Ex: as in UH-OH!

5. ㅜ- u
Name 우 read as "u"
Ex: as in BOOT (Push your lips out!)

6. ㅡ-eu
Name 으 read as "eu"
Ex: as in PULL (Dont push your lips out!)

7. ㅣ- i

11. ㅢ-ui

Ex: as in PULL followed by EE as in FEET, but said quickly as one sound.

And yes, tapos na po ang 11 basic vowel symbols, memorize nyo po yan then proceed sa 10 vowel symbols.

Always Remember: this symbol/consonant "" used as zero-value when it appears before a vowel. It functions as a place holder in a word-initial position, so that the letter "a" should be written in korean as "" ( not "").

Para mas lubusan nyong maintindihan. Basahin nyo po yung TAKE NOTE  ko sa pinakauna. Thanks.

*10 DOUBLE-VOWEL SYMBOLS
- Ang 10 double vowel symbol ay binubuo sa pamamagitan ng pagdagdag ng one or more stroke sa basic vowel symbol or pagsamahin ang ibang basic vowel symbols.

Halimbawa nalang nito ay ang "a" adding stroke to "ㅏ", you get "ㅑ" "ya".

1ㅑ-ya
Name 야 read as "ya"
Ex: as in YARD.

2.ㅕ-yeo
Name 여 read as "yeo"
Ex: yo as in YONDER

3. ㅛ-yo
Name 요 read as "yo"
Ex: yo as in YOGA.

4. ㅠ-yu
Name 유 read as "yu"
Ex: yu as in YOU.

5. ㅒ-yae
Name 얘 read by "yae"
Ex: as in YANKIE.

6. ㅖ -ye
Name 예 read as "ye"
Ex: ye as in YES.

//These are the 6 double vowel symbol. The results of adding one or more stroke means adding the "y" sound.//

//Another 4 double vowel symbols is combining the basic vowel symbols to form a double vowel. W/c means pag nag combine ka ng 2 basic vowel you can create a double vowel and that is the "w" sounds.//

7.ㅘ-wa
Name 와 read as"wa"
Ex: as in WINE (WAYN)

8. ㅙ-wae
Name 왜 read as "wae"
Ex: wae as in WAIT (WEYT)

9. ㅞ-we
Name 웨 read as "we"
Ex: Whe as in WHEN

10. ㅝ-wo
Name 워 read as "wo"
Ex: wo as in WONDER

Notice that the above 4 double vowel symbols have the w sound.

You may wonder whether other vowel symbols can be combined. However, there are vowels symbols that cannot be combined together.
"ㅗ" does not combine with "ㅓ" "ㅔ", where as "ㅜ" does not combine with "ㅏ" "ㅐ" the reason is attributed to the korean vowel harmony principles.
