The Tree

I rolled out of my bed, my eyes burned by the sun. I retreated to the corner of the room. As my eyes finally adjusted to my surroundings, everything became more clear. The bed still sat in its usual spot by the door, my nightstand accompanied by it, well the dresser was put on the opposite side.
I looked to the door to see a plate of food had been slid under, but it was no different then yesterday's meal; two slices of turkey, a bowl of peas, and a cup of water.
This didn't come as a surprise though, As I have spent every second of my 18 years of life trapped in these four walls. The only hope that I could find was beyond five steal bars that led to a field of green grass. There in the green grass stood the only other form of life I had ever seen, it stood tall, a tree in all its beauty. Each leaf mimicked the leaf before, lined perfectly on every intricate branch. I sat by the window each day imagining the day my bare feet would finally touch the ground. The day I would run through fields ready to explore sights that were beyond my reach, but all my dreams had been crushed, every time I laid eyes on the steal door.
Most days passed by with utter silence, others imagining what life was beyond these walls. On those special days a voice of man appeared in my ears telling me that life would soon grant me my wish and I would be rescued. After years of waiting those dreams were slowly crushed.
