Chapter 2

I looked down at him confused. He let out a small groan.

I got up and sat down next to him. "Are you okay?" I signed.

"Are you mute?" he signed.

"You know sign language?" I signed back.

"Yeah, in elementary school I had a mute and deaf boy in my class, so we all learned sign language and I expanded on it more than I thought I would." he signed.

Lucky him, no one would bother to learn a letter in sign for me.

"You don't have to sign back, just as long as you can understand me. It actually comforts me more when I hear peoples voices. I signed.

"Okay." he said a loud.

"So, what's that?" I signed then pointed to the knife next to his hand.

"A knife." he said simply.

"I know that, but...why?"

"I'm going to be completely honest with you, I'm a killer and I was going to kill you." he explained.

A normal person probably would've ran by now, but the people I talk to are limited and I need the company.

"You're not gonna kill me now right?" I singed, fairly startled.

"No, I think you would suffer more if you stayed alive." he said casually.

"Wow, thanks." I signed making a sarcastic face.

"No problem." he said standing up.

"Winter!?" I heard a voice call out.

I scanned the direction of the school. It was probably Benny. He was the only one who knows I come here when I'm upset, and probably the only person that would come running after me.

I looked back up at the hooded man who was now gone.

I sat there confused as Benny ran to my side.

"Winter, you can't just hide here all day." he said.

I was still phased and looking around. Where did he go?

"Winter!" he snapped.

I twisted my head towards him and cocked my head.

He sighed,"Winter, come on, no one even cares, just come back to school." he persuaded.

"I'm not going back." I signed stubbornly.

"I guess I'm not going anywhere either." he gave a fake disappointed look and flashed a smile.

I set my head on the damp blades of grass.

Should I tell him about the hooded man? No, I doubt he'd even believe me.

He mimicked my actions and stared at me in the grass.

I guess there's no harm in trying. I turned over to him and motioned my hands to start signing.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're beautiful?" he questioned smiling.

Nervousness coursed through me,"My mom..." I signed jokingly.

"I mean a guy, outside of your family."

I shook my head in the grass. He took a piece of my light blonde hair in his hand,"Well, you are." he smiled.

His light smile quickly faded,"Forget I said anything." he said sitting up."I have to go." he muttered. He jumped up and started to run back over to school.
