"Mira... Mom wants to talk to you downstairs", a voice said waking me up from my nap.
"Alright, I'm coming", I replied. I recognized her tone. She sounded bored and I automatically knew that I was going to have the talk again. Rome is the girl that everyone wants to be. She has the long hair, the grey eyes, she's skinny, tall, and probably the best personality anyone could have. She's my other half, and everything I'm not.
I got up from my bed, and walked out my room. As I walked down the hall, I stare at the picture frames on the walls. It's always this one picture that catches my eye; I was probably like 4 years old, my family and I were at the beach. I'm getting chased by Rome while my mother and father are laughing at each other. Everything has changed since then.
Every step I took down the stairs would make me more nervous than I originally was.
"Mira? In the kitchen cariño", I hear my mother say. "Siéntate"
"Yes ma?", I asked. She glances at me with a sympathetic but serious look.
"Cariño, I know you don't like when I bring this up, but you're 21 years old. You need to find a stable job, I can't always keep providing for you. Look tú sabe that I'll always be here for you, but right now you're not even making an effort to do anything with your life", she says.
"Yo sé ma", I replied.
"Mira look at Rome. Her modeling career is successful, and she owns her own house alongside her fiancé", she added.
"Listen mami, I'm not like Rome. I never had my life planned, I just always went with flow. I've try to find jobs but I can't find the right one. I'll find something, I promise", I explained to her, getting up quickly to get back into my room.
I enter my room and plop down on my bed. As I stare into the ceiling, I start to think about how different my life would be if my mother and father never got divorced.
