This is the story of a native american named Helushka, yet due to a capture of the white man he was then known as Jonathan. Caged like an animal they believe him to be, he tries to think of a plan to escape. His plan begins when he meets a girl, that happens to be the daughter of the man who has assisted in his capture, hoping that her generous heart can assist him in his escape. Or will he take her for himself?

Luna is outraged at what her father and the other men had done. They have been traveling around the mountains of California and have made camp at a specific area that has life blooming in every direction, a place where the indians travel for more food and water. When she discovers what her father and the men have captured, she tries to show kindness to the wild man that the men seem to enjoy tormenting. What will she do?
