More Than a Friend (Michael Conor)

1 week of summer

Haley's POV-

iMessage from Michael Conor:)

Michael- "what are we doing on our first day of summer, Hales?"
Haley- "we're going to hike up the mountain, hope you're not afraid of heights! Oh, and bring a change of clothes;)"
Michael- "oh no. What are you getting me into"
Haley- "you'll see:)"

I put on my Nike spandex & tank top with my back pack full of clothes, towels, and water. I'm waiting on the couch for Michael to pick me up. He has no idea what he's getting into.

We're in his car on our way to our hiking trip. As we pull in Michael takes a good look at the mountain. "Is it too late to change my mind?" He asks. "Wayyyy too late." I said.

*2 hours later*

"If you would have told me we'd be walking for 2 hours I wouldn't let you drag me into this" Michael said. "Oh just wait" I explained as we head to the top. As we look at the peak you can see the sun fall right into the earth. It's so beautiful here. "Oh. My gosh. Wow." Michael said barely being able to speak. "I know. That's why I brought you here because it's so beautiful." I said. "Like you.." Michael muttered under his breath. My heart stopped. "What'd you say?" I asked acting dumb. "Nothing." He said.

Michael's POV-

"I know. That's why I brought you here because it's so beautiful." Haley said. "Like you.." I muttered under my breath. I can't believe I just said that. It just slipped out. But it's so true. "What'd you say?" She asked. I couldn't say it again. She probably doesn't feel the same about me. So I change the subject. "Okay so why'd I bring an extra change of clothes?" I asked. "Oh yes! This is why." She said as she grabbed my hand pulling me to the other side of the mountain. It was overlooking a lake. "Oh no, haley." I said. "Oh yes!" She said. She was so excited. That big smile was burned into my brain. She's always smiling. And i can't help but smile too. "Okay so who's jumping first?" Haley asked. I definitely wasn't. "Okay how about me jump together?" She asked. I liked that idea more. "Sounds good to me" I explained. She grabbed my hand. "On the count of 3. 1, 2, 3!!" We just jumped from a 40 foot cliff! We splashed into the water & came to the surface at the same time. Her sparkling eyes matched the crystal blue water. We stared at each other for a while. I pushed a piece of hair that was in her face behind her ear.

Haley's POV-

There we were. In a daze, staring at each other. I had butterflies flying around my entire stomach. I really liked Michael. But I couldn't let him know because he was just going to be leaving. "So uh it's getting dark we should probably head back" I said. "Yeah you're right." Michael agreed.

*after the ride home*

We pull up to my house and Michael walks me to the door. "I had fun. Thank you." Michael said. "There's more where that came from. We have 2 more days together. I'll tell you tomorrow's adventure tomorrow. Be at my house at 11:30." I explained. "Will do." Michael said. He came closer to hug me. I gave him an awkward side hug and ran inside. "Goodnight" I yelled from inside. I can't get attached to him more than I already am when he's just going to leave me.

Michaels POV-

"Goodnight." I whispered walking back to my car. Man. She really must not like me like that. It was heartbreaking to get a reality check like that. Tears started to fill my eyes as I drove home. I guess being friends is better than nothing.

Haley's POV-

I hate that he's leaving. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so I don't want to be the reason he doesn't take it. I started to cry a little bit. We can still be friends though. I took my makeup off and changed into pj's and went to bed.
