since i suck at explaining things, here are a few of my covers from my cover shop where i've used this "technique," i guess you could call it?
so if you look closely at the pictures above, you can see that the text is subtly sort of wrapped around the models' faces. the letters sort of conform to the curves and divots in their faces.
and now that i've finished terribly explaining what i'm talking about, let's get into the tutorial!
how to displace text。
to start, open up the image on which you'd like to use this method into photoshop.
then, head over to adjustments > hue/saturation and bring the saturation slide all the way over to the left (the grey/dark/black side) so that the image is now black and white.
now go to save as and save your image as a psd file.
reopen your original (the non b&w version of the image you just saved as a psd) image into photoshop again, and begin adding any psd's or colorings, as well as any text that you'd like to displace/warp to fit the model's face.
