In order to survive, Isla O'Grady told herself four things:
• No one cares about anyone else. No one cares about your hair that you probably haven't brushed or the shirt that you've probably already worn twice that week.
• Read a book. It helps to escape this world from time to time.
• Your friends are cool. Your friends like you. You are (somehow) not a loner.
• Stay away from Jamie Abel. And she tried. She tried so hard to follow these rules, but it was so easy to fool herself into thinking that everyone was staring at her. And she didn't really have time for reading- which was the worst. Because why wouldn't you want to escape to an entirely different world, when the one you are stuck in completely and utterly sucks? Also, she had a hard time believing in her friends sometimes- apart from Alice, she was great- because she had a tendency to doubt herself (guilty, but then who didn't?)
And Jamie Abel?
God, Don't get her started.
