The Truth

Chapter 2

As the two teams got ready, Max had no idea what to do. Max’s brain rattled inside of his head. Max looked around to see everyone ready to charge towards the balls. The coach blew his whistle.

“Max, this is similar to dodgeball, but we use our powers.” Kyle explained.  Everyone ran, flew, slithered, etc. to grab a ball. Max decide to stay back, and observe what was happening. He notice Kyle throw a ball, and Michael shoot some type of energy simultaneously at the ball. The ball flew and hit a kid in the chest; sending him back and off the court. Danny would transform in and out of animals depending on what he needed. He noticed Michael be one of the first on his team to get hit; soon followed by Kyle and Danny. The game began to slow down as Max was still studying the game, until he realized that it was just him verses four guys on the other teams. Everyone wanted to see what the new guy had to offer. One dude on one of the other teams rolled Max a ball. Max picked the ball up, and thought about everything bad that could happen.

“Remember, it’s just like dodgeball!” Kyle shouted from the stands.

“That’s just it.” Max thought.

“Come on,” One guy said. Max just stood there, frozen in that one place. “Newbie is scared!” He chuckled. The whole gym started laughing. Max’s mind flashed back to all the times he was bullied back in Starling Central.

“Look, little Max is scared,” Yelled a kid. “ On three we destroy him. Three!” Everyone launched a ball at a young Max. He couldn’t do anything about it, and was pelted with dodgeballs.  Max was back in the present, and had enough; something clicked inside his brain. With the ball in his hand, Max’s eyes and the ball ignited it with some type of orange energy. Everyone was shocked to see his power. It was like they had seen it before, but couldn’t remember where. Max wound up, and threw the ball. The ball ricocheted off of one guy, and hit everyone on the other teams. The whole gym was in silence, and amazement at what had just happened. Max’s eyes returned to normal, and he fell to the floor; sparking Kyle, Michael, and Danny to rush down to see if he was ok. Max awoke in surprise. His head felt like the world was spinning. Max jumped out the bed. and into the hallway. Kyle was outside waiting for him.

“Can I just say what you did in there was astonishing. Nobody is gonna wanna mess with you.” Kyle exclaimed.

“I can’t say anything. How can I do that, How can I transfer energy out of my hands? What was that energy?” Max asked.

“I don't know how you can do it, but it is your power,” Kyle added. “And your power seems familiar, but I can’t recall where I have seen it before.”

“What about all the powers y’all used. Michael shot a blast of some energy at a ball, causing it to speed up.” Max said.

“That’s our plasma blast, like is said earlier Michael and I have similar powers. We have found ways to use those powers in creative ways.” Kyle explained. The two continued to talk as the walked back to the dorms. When they walked into the room, a girl was sitting on Kyle’s bed.

“Hey Kyle,” She said, “Who’s the new guy? Wait isn’t that the guy that beat a four team in powerball?”

“Yep that’s him; Max meet Madigan.” Kyle replied. When Max saw her gorgeous face, all he could do is stop and stare. He was astonished to see her talking to him. She was exactly what Max thought about when he thinks about the perfect girl, from the top of her brown luscious hair to the bottom of her shoes.

“Um Max?” Kyled called, “You alright?”

“Yeah I’m good. Hi I’m Max.” He stated.

“I’m Madigan, So what other powers do you have.” She asked.

“I don’t know, persay. I just found out about this power; today.” Max quivered.
