He struggled with the door handle, having to scan his card two more times until it finally clicked, giving him access to his hotel room. He groggily pushed his way in, shutting the door with his foot and setting his suitcase down beside it before making a b-line for the bed.
The bed creaked upon his weight as he plopped down atop it, letting out a long exhale before shifting a bit, ignoring the stiffness of the pillow. He flung his arm to his side, hand feeling up and down the mattress before recognizing the slick case of his phone. He gripped it and brought it up to his face, checking the time. The white numbers that glowed on the screen read 11:54pm. He sighed, setting the phone back down beside him.
Tomorrow was a big day. Why, you ask? Well it so happens that Evan was elected to host for the opening of a new MMO game. The decision was last minute, leaving him exhausted from the excruciatingly long plane ride. The event was only supposed to last 1-2 hours, but that didn't stop Evan's nervousness and his relentless thoughts of the many things that could easily go wrong. He rubbed at his eyes, trying to silent his mind as he stared up at the yellowing ceiling.
It was 1:20am by the time he had successfully fallen asleep.
His victory was short-lived as his alarm blared beneath him. He must've rolled on top of his phone while asleep, he guessed. He pulled the ringing device out from under his back, glaring at it in frustration.
6am.
After some mental preparation and slight procrastination, he managed to roll out of bed, stumbling as his sheet caught his foot. He tugged it free then reluctantly headed for the shower.
It was 7:30 by the time he was completely ready. The event started at 10am, he thought, having to double check for confirmation.
After enjoying a bagel and banana for breakfast, he headed out, jumping into his rental car. He had left the hotel at 8, and arrived at the event sometime around 9. He found a fairly decent parking spot, stopping to adjust his suit before stepping out of the vehicle. He wore a black tux with a white undershirt and yellow tie, his pants and shoes the same dark shade as the tux itself.
It only took him about five minutes to reach the large building, and he was almost instantly bombarded with fans questioning him and asking for pictures etc. After about another five minutes, he managed to slip away from the crowd and head for backstage, where he prepped himself with looking over his speech cards and constantly checking himself in the mirror.
10am. The announcer's voice boomed across the auditorium, explaining the event and everything that will be gone over. He adjusted his mic, calming himself with a couple of deep breaths.
He listened as the announcer finally began the introduction for the first host.
"And to lead this event tonight, we have two very special hosts!" The voice stated, causing Evan to pause.
Two? He wasn't told about this..? Time for panic.
He hadn't planned for this. He initially thought he was going to be the only host for this event, but now he has to lead it with someone he probably doesn't even know. Great. Perfect. Might as well add awkwardness and unpreparation to his list of problems.
His thoughts were interrupted as his name echoed around the auditorium, triggering a stir in the crowd as fans cheered, clapping and whooping as he headed out onto stage. There were a few that didn't really have the same reaction, ones who probably didn't know who he was. He forced a smile, waving slightly to the crowd, though he couldn't stop his gaze from wandering over to the other side of the stage, curiosity at who the other host would be distracting him from the crowd's cheers. The crowd was silenced as the announcer's voice started again, beginning with the second host's introduction.
