A|N We were asked to partner up and create our own myth in English class. I, of course, made mine spooky. My partner was only there to look pretty and so i wasn't alone.

Anyways here it is! I will update it when it gets graded!

The Ones

Would you believe me if I told the reasons why you can't rest or drink yourself to sleep at night? Why you can’t seem to face that one corner of your room when it is time for bed? Why you mindlessly surf the web to keep your mind off of the darkness around you? Its’ not like it would matter, you can't escape.  Have you ever gotten that sick feeling that someone is watching you? It feels like they are in the same room, in that one corner or in the closet peeking out. Some more sinister times it feels as if they are right next to you? You can partially feel the warmth of their breath on your neck.  It’s them.

Have you seen those inhuman shadows from the corner of your eye? Some disappear so quickly, others linger there even as you stare at them. Have you ever been home alone and suddenly a sound can be heard in the other room? Or you hear footsteps following you but once you turn around no one is there? Have you ever felt someone is calling you, beckoning you to come to them? Their voices are as clear as day, some even sound like a family member or friend. You walk towards the voice but once you reach no one is there. Or the family member or friend shrug and tell you that they didn’t even call you.  You tend to shake off the events, lying to yourself, blaming your imagination. It’s them.

Have you ever suddenly awoken from your sleep in the late hours of the night? You weren’t having a nightmare but all of a sudden you are utterly terrified and feel extremely unsafe. Your heart is pounding so hard it makes your ears ring. For a moment you seem to not even breathe as you look around your dark room. You try to call out for your parents or housemate, but your words seem to fall to the floor, no sound coming out of your chapped lips. You try your best to scream but still, nothing comes out. You find warm tears start to flow out of your wide eyes as you continue to try to get a word out. Sooner or later you give up, your body sweats heavily as you curl back up in bed with your eyes wide open. You cover yourself in a blanket, wanting to feel some sort of safeness. Like a switch you are thrown back into sleep.

What is the cause of this? They are known as many names but the most common is ‘The Ones’. No one knows what they are but they are definitely not human. They are something much more sinister.  The Ones don’t target a certain type of person, like a bratty teenager or an overworked mother. There is a rare occasion when they do get physical and hurt their victims. When they do, the victim ends up with dark bruises or scratches somewhere on their body. This only happens if they want to be seen. When they want you to give in and believe they are real not just imagination. Most just like to torcher with their victims though.  In the rare instance that they do show themselves, the victim can never get that image out of their head. They have been described as having sick empty grins, glowing blood red eyes and matted black hair. Their slim bodies having arms that past their knees as if they are hunched over, fingers long like sticks, legs ending with toes similar to their fingers. Some have multiple arms or legs and even more than one set of eyes. They simply stare at you until you break into insanity.

This information will not do you any good like I said before. There really nothing you can do once one has chosen you. You can’t say a special word or simply ignore them. You just have to live with it until they get bored.  Next time you see a shadow or feel like someone is following you just pray that you get a nice one.
