I watched what was going on in front of me. There it was plain and simple. The power couple of our school just broke up. Tyler and Sienna are no more. It was the perfect stereotype. The blonde cheerleader gets the athlete. They were pretty much destined to date.
My friend Opaline turns to me. "Oh my gosh, Eloisa!" she screeches into my ear. "Do you know what this means?"
"No," I say.
"Tyler will be looking for a new girlfriend," she says. "And pretty much every girl will try to be his next one. So it wouldn't hurt to have a nerd in the running."
"Okay?" I ask. "Not quite grasping the point here."
"Eloisa, that's you," she tells me.
"Oh," I say. Me try to get a guy like Tyler? Fat chance. He has girls lining up to date him.
"Come on, Eloisa," she coos.
"What would I have to do?" I ask, mildly curious.
"Try to be his girlfriend," Opaline says. "Plain and simple."
"Fine," I say reluctantly. "I'll try. But please help me. I'm a hopeless romantic without the romance part."
"Okay," she says. The bell rings. "We'll talk after school."
I walk out of the cafeteria and go to the one class I have with none other than- Tyler.
