Chapter 2

When I wake up, I jump out of bed. I get ready for the day. It's the same old routine- wash my face, brush my teeth, comb my hair, put on my clothes, and eat a piece of fruit. It's September so I walk to school but in winter I try to catch a ride from someone.

I walk out the creaky door to my house and take a deep breath. The air this morning is warm. The breezes swirl around the houses and trees. The fallen leaves paint the world in shades of red, orange, yellow, and every once in a while purple. The creek by my school has leaves floating down it like little toy boats. And finally, I get to my school.

The minute I step thru the doors. My friend, Izabel, grabs my wrist and drags me to her locker.

"I have something very important to tell you," Izabel says without a hint of humor.

"What is it?" I ask.

"I just wanted to say hi," Izabel says. I roll my eyes. This is typical of Izabel. She's a bit crazy- to put it lightly.

"Well, hi!" I say.

Izabel is one of my closest friends but sometimes she's exasperating.

"Anything else?" I ask.

" Well I am fabulous," she tells me with a hair flip. "But you already knew that."

I walk away and run into...
