Kiri's POV
Next Morning
Sunlight beams through the windows as the sun rises. It's times like this I hate having a room with such large windows. I slowly sit up in my bed. I'm still wearing my dress from yesterday, and my hair feels like a rat's nest.
Wait, wasn't I in the library? When did I come back to my room? Zain. He must have carried me back here last night. This must have been the sixtieth time he's had to carry me back from the library in the past three months. Oops.
I slowly got up and made my way to the shower with a change of clothes. The warm water quickly woke me up, and I could feel the night washing away.
After my shower, I make my way to the kitchen to grab some food. The best part of working at the castle has got to be the food, because the chef makes the most amazing meals for everyone.
"Eggs and toast?" The newest cook asks me as I sit down in the kitchen. I smile as I recognize the San Lorenzian accent."Sounds good," I nod. Just as I start to relax, I hear squealing coming from the door. I don't need to turn around to know that the squealing is coming from a group of maids.
"Kiri! Is it true?!" One of the girls cries as she runs to me.
"Did you really take tea with their highnesses yesterday?" Another yells.
"What was Prince Glenn like?"
"What did Prince Wilfred say?"
"Did you really rendezvous with Prince Keith in the library?"
One after another, they bombarded me with questions. I sighed as the cook set a plate of eggs, toast, and bacon in front of me. He shot me a pitying glance as he turned back to his cooking. Even though he's new he must know just how annoying these five maids are. Each of them wants to be the next Cinderella or something.
"Ok, ok," I quieted the girls as I salted and peppered my eggs. "Yes, I had tea with the princes. Yes, Prince Keith and I talked after everyone left. No, it was not a rendezvous." I took a bite of my eggs. The girls continued to giggle before one of them finally spoke up.
"Is it true that next week's ball is being held for the princes to meet potential brides and the prime minister is just a cover?"
I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes. I admit that my friendship with the princes and their butlers is unconventional, but even I understand that it will never be more than friendship. We're oil and water. They're princes, and I'm a maid. They're designer suits, and I'm bargin basement blue jeans. That's just how it is. I don't have a Cinderella fantasy, and these girls shouldn't either.
"As far as I know, the ball is being held to honor San Lorenzo's prime minister." I said as I continued to eat. The girls didn't stop talking until Zain and Yu, Prince Glenn's butler, came into the kitchen.
"Miss Kiri," Yu said. "Prince Glenn wishes to see you in the east drawing room." He smiled kindly. I've always liked Yu. He's really sweet and tries his hardest to manage both Glenn and Glenn's younger brother, Alan.
I sighed as I stood. Apparently, no one wanted me to finish my breakfast this morning. Taking my plate and fork with me, I walked past Yu and Zain as I made my way to the east drawing room. I was gonna finish my food one way or another.
Glenn was standing in front of one of the large windows, staring at the garden. He didn't seem to hear me come in, so I just sat at the table and continued my meal. When he did turn around, he seemed flustered.
"Kiri," he began as he walked stiffly from the window to the table. "I wanted to ask you..." He trailed off as his cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink. "In the interest of the alliance between Oriens and San Lorenzo, I was hoping you would help me by-"
