Mackenzie

After I snapped back into reality, I decided to go back upstairs and try to get some more sleep.

I crawled under the warm covers and closed my eyes before drifting to sleep.

"Kenz get up!"

"Kenzie."

"Im not joking, let's go!"

I felt the warm leave my body in a instant. I opened an eye to see the covers were ripped off me.

I curled myself into a ball before closing my eyes again.

"Kenzie I swear to god," I heard Johnny say.

"Where's Lauren?" I grumbled.

"In the shower, mom wants all of us ready in an hour and I know how long you take."

I groaned before opening my eyes and sitting up.

"Good," he smiled at me.

I quickly grabbed the cover, pulling them over me, and closed my eyes.

"Kenzie!" He shouted as he climbed on top of me and started tickling me.

I screamed and laughed as I tried to throw him off me, but finally I grabbed his hands.

He was still laying on top of me and the covers were tangled in our bodies. I looked up and locked eyes with him.

We were snapped out of the moment by the sound of the bathroom door closing. He quickly jumped off me, and dragged the blanket off the bed.

"Be ready, now you only have 50," he winked before leaving the room.

I groaned before getting up and heading to the bathroom.  I applied light makeup and left my hair wavy.

I changed into black sport shorts, a white crop top, and sneakers since we were going on a hike today.

I went back in Lauren's room to see her dancing around while applying makeup.

I started clapping so she would notice me.  She blushed a shade a pink.

"How long have you been standing there?" she asked.

"Long enough," I laughed going over to sit on her windowsill.

She laughed and sat back down at her vanity.

"So, do you remember anything from last night?" she asked me.

"The party? Yeah most of it," I said.

"No I mean what happened after," she said.

"What happened after?" I asked.

Before she could answer, Johnny walked into the room.

"We're leaving, lets go," he said.

Lauren and I followed him out the door and downstairs.

We climbed into the car.  The drive to the mountain was not too long.

When we got there, the three of us got out of the car.

"Text me when you're ready to be picked up!" Mer called before driving away.

I looked up at the giant mountain in front of us and groaned.

"What? It's not that bad?" Lauren said as if she was trying to convince herself too.

Johnny started walking up, Lauren and I shared a look before walking to catch up with him.

We walked for what felt like hours until we finally reached the top.

Once we got there, I sat down on a giant rock that overlooked the edge.

My breath was taken from the view in front of me, it over looked LA.

"The view is beautiful!" Lauren exclaimed taking the words from my mouth.

I smiled before standing up and jointing the two of them.

We decided to head back down after taking a couple pictures.

"Im so tired," I complained when we started walking again.

John walked in front of me and bent down.

"Hop on," he said.

I jumped on his back and he carried me down the rest of the way.

When we got in the car, drops of rain started falling.

Storms always scared me because of things that happened in the past.

My step dad, Greg, and my mom always fought and were unhappy with each other.

But she stayed with him because she needed help with supporting two girls, and he needed money.

All their fights seemed to occur during storms. However, one night was worse than all the others.

I remember laying in my bed at night listening to the sound of the rain hit my window and watching my room light up at the sudden flash of light. And then I heard a scream.

I ran out of my room and crept to the steps to see my mom on the floor holding her cheek while Greg looked at his hand.

He hit her.

I turned back, ran into my room and cried.

He was never good to my mom, and everyone knew it.

That's why I always spend time at the Orlando's, even though my LA house is a few minutes away.

They know how it is at home because I tell them everything.

Their my family away from home, and they treat me as their own child.

The thought of Greg sent shivers down my back. I looked out the window and tried to blink away the tears that had formed in my eyes.

I felt a hand rest on top of mine. I turned and locked eyes with Johnny. He had a comforting small smile on his face. I smiled back and looked down at my lap.
